TourGuide radius plus speed alert

I have modified a School Zone file to fit my needs by removing (historical) locations and adding and/or fine tuning the coordinates for all schools in the Bentonville, AR School Dist. I also saved it as Schools_SouthEast_TourGuide with a radius of 800 feet. Not wanting to leave well enough alone, I would like to add one more thing.

Can I have the voice alert only when going above 25 mph and TourGuide radius of 800 feet at the same time? If so how? I know I’ve seen instructions posted for proximity plus speed but not sure how to do it with radius plus speed.

If it can be done I know someone on this forum has done it. Simple step by step instructions would be greatly appreciated. This is my first GPS (Nuvi 1450) I’m still a newbe. Less than two months.

You can have both s speed and proximity alert if you convert the file to GPX. GPX allows both. It's possible to do it as a CSV as well, but not as elegantly as with the GPX format.

For CSV set the distance using the POI Loader but set the speed by adding 25 to the file name. Your file would be Schools_SouthEast_TourGuide_25.

Both speed and radius alert

Thank you Box Car. I can't believe it's that simple.
I like simple. Simple is good.
1. Change file name to Schools_SouthEast_TourGuide_25
2. Change WAV file to Schools_SouthEast_TourGuide_25
3. Run it through Extra POI Editor to put it in GPX format.
While in E.P.E. should I set distance there or wait till I get to POI Loader?

Thank you once again.

You don't need EPE

Renaming the file will put a speed setting for either a GPX or CSV. With the GPX there is a field you use for speed and another for proximity. For CSV files you have access to only one speed or proximity when loading the file with POI Loader.

Since you want to use EPE, load your school zone file, hit CTL-R which is replace field. Select either the speed or proximity field, key in the value and tell it yes. Then you do the other field. You don't need the 25 in the name.

@19PapaBear44

If you have not yet set up your preference for Extra Poi Editor and plan to use ft. Under options click on preferences. For example using ft for input. Under units you will see editor, select Imperial/US. For Field Read select metric and Field save select Metric.

It still don't work

I’ve tried everyone’s suggestion plus a few from other posts, all with the same result. No matter what speed I am going when I enter a school zone I get the same familiar voice: “You have entered a school zone, please watch your speed and be on lookout for children.”

My goal was to not hear that at 9 MPH but only above 25 MPH.

If anyone else has been beating their head against this wall then read the following:
Hornbyp's guide to setting alerts with POI Loader
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6764

“If the file name contains the (case-sensitive) phrase “TourGuide” (sic), then the Alerts are of the type “Tour Guide” (sic). “Tour Guide” alerts seem to be of a straightforward circular nature – where the proximity distance is the radius of the circle. They are always Proximity Alerts: any attempt to associate a Speed with them just alters the computed
Proximity distance (a useful side-effect!).”

I do appreciate everyone’s help but after trying everything, I give up. I can’t get it to work on my Nuvi 1450.

Maybe it will work on a NUVI 350????

I have seen the future and it is now!

TourGuide + Speed alert

I am the author of "School Zones in NW Ohio" POI. Like you I tried to use TourGuide's circular alert along with a speed warning. I couldn't get it to work either. My work around was to make two entries for schools that have two streets with coordinates on both streets. My POI was written using GeePeeEx and is in GPX format. GPX allows you to set both speed and proximity alerts for each file separately.

TourGuide + Speed + Proximity

I had thought of that also but seemed like a lot of work as many schools can be approached from four streets, each requiring it’s own Lon. & Lat. But I might try it with my local schools. Bentonville, AR only has 15 schools.

Might need to put in two files, subfolder one, "proximity local", the other, "TourGuide others".
