MapSource and Garmin take different routes. Why?

Just noticed that MapSource and Garmin take different routes. Seems kind of odd that their software doesn't use their route. (Actually a better one.)

Any thoughts on that?

Are you sure you have the same map versions on the unit and on Map Source?

This is a commonly debated issue. MapSource has more control over avoidances, what type of roads have priority along with other parameters/settings which can affect the route. Also, the routing algorithms are apparently not exactly the same. You can read up more at Garmin's forum here:
