update for 1xxx series

Mandatory Software Update

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just got a email from Garmin Hadnt got the download yet,

Today, Garmin released a free, mandatory GPS software update to correct some software issues that cause select GPS devices to repeatedly power on and freeze at the Garmin logo. The product models affected are models in the nüvi 1100 series, nüvi 1200 series, nüvi 1300 series, and nüvi 1400 series. Not all individual devices in these series of models may experience this freezing condition.

You can download a free firmware update immediately that will prevent these software issues by using Garmin's WebUpdater program. This update will prevent the freezing problem caused by these software bugs but it will not correct the problem if your device has already experienced this problem.

If your device has already experienced problems, you will need to return your device to Garmin for repair. Please allow 10-14 days for the repair and return of your device.

This appears

This appears to be software release 4.40 which was available on webupdater last week. If you've already updated to 4.40, webupdater will not find any available new firmware.

I found that out...went to web updater and it told me I had the most current. Why wouldn't they tell us that if you updated to 4.4 it has already been done. I sent Garmin an email saying what is going on....Another one of their let the customers find out on their own...

They could have mentioned that v4.40 was the update they were talking about in the body of the email. It would have avoided a lot of confusion for users who already had v4.40 installed.

It appears Garmin still has Mickey Mouse on the payroll:)))
Will Garmin EVER learn that somethings terribly wrong?
This just blows my mind that it keeps getting worse and not better.

That's what I figured

That's what I figured as I've already updated the firmware on my nuvi 1490T. The change log seemed rather vague.

If they follow pattern of previous firmware releases, version 4.50 will be out before the email gets distributed rolleyes
Maybe that's the reason they didn't mention version number in the email. smile

at repeating the same/similar mistakes with different models. There should be some incentives for downloading Garmin software since we basically test the software and suffer the consequences.

Boots a bit faster now

I was previously running 4.0 on a 1490T, upgraded to the latest version which happened to be 4.4, and then I get the email a day later. I figure Garmin's email system simply broadcasts to all 1xxx owners, and ignores the actual firmware state of each unit.

Subjectively, 4.4 seems to boot slightly faster to Nav mode, and definitely much faster to boot into USB mode. Also, 4.4 routes to my home from work the same way my old Nuvi 350 does. Previously, it appeared to prefer a slightly non-optimal route, and it always bothered me why it did so. I haven't used it long enough to determine if the occasional pauses in text to speech voice went away.

FW 4.4 Did not fix the minor problem I have with the speedometer being stuck at zero when using a multi point route.

My 1490t was re-booting once

My 1490t was re-booting once or twice per day. I get the email from Garmin that I should update the firmware. I update the firmware now my NUVI freezes at the "loader loading" screen. I guess I have to ship it to Garmin so they fix it. 2 weeks without my NUVI and a planned trip, not good. I hate being a guinea pig for Garmin. When will they learn.

Why? Because we put up with it, time after time

Bingo It's been their motto for a while now.

I read the Garmin notice again

Hmm. I read the email again. So, if you've already experienced the freezing problem then the update is no good???

"This update will prevent the freezing problem caused by these software bugs but it will not correct the problem if your device has already experienced this problem.

"If your device has already experienced problems, you will need to return your device to Garmin for repair. Please allow 10-14 days for the repair and return of your device."

update

shock this is not a firmware update but a tex update that can cause freezup at random run your web updater go to voices and you will find the update for the 13xxx and 14xxx confirm.

the art off war is never a winning combination for any one 1490T

Will say this much about the update

That darn update gave my 1390T fits. It cross linked my favorites, I couldn't delete the catagories, I ended up doing a hard reset and clearing out all my saved favorites to get it back to where I could use it again. I had catagories in my favorites, stuff from texas was in North Carolina, other stuff connected it self to Florida, when I tried to remove the cross links the catagories would not got away, I deleted all my favorites, then connect device to PC and deleted all the GPX files , had no favorites in there I added 1 favorite clicked on it went to add a catagory and all my old catagories were still in there. The only thing that fixed it was a Hard Reset and clear all data.

I had the same "Loader

I had the same "Loader Loading" problem. I went to the Garmin website and searched in the support forums (used the term "Loader Loading") and found help at the top of the list. They tell you how to go into a Pre-Boot mode (start the unit and hold the upper right corner of the screen). I tried this and it would not work. I contacted support by phone (waited 53 minutes on hold) and after a discussion with his "Supervisor" he had me put it into what he called a test mode. This was a method he didn't know about untill the Supervisor told him about it.

While pressing and holding the upper left corner of the screen power the unit on.
Continue holding the corner of the screen, wait about 10 seconds and then plug in the computer cable.
DO NOT LET GO OF THE CORNER OF THE SCREEN!
The unit will then connect to the computer (it still takes about a minute or so).
You can finally let go of the screen after the green bar starts to appear at the bottom of the screen.
Once connected you can then delete the GUPDATE.GCD file in the .system folder following the instructions on the Garmin website.
To see the file you may need to set the properties on your computer to show hidden and system files.
After deleting the file restart the Garmin and do the update again.

This all worked and I no longer own a brick.

Thanks for Loader Loading Tip

Thanks for sharing the Loader Loading fix. I'm sure it will save a lot of people time and effort. I hope gadget_man's unit hasn't been shipped yet.
