Thank you

Just want to give a big thank you to this website and community. I've never owned a GPS, so when my dad wanted my help picking one and setting it up I had to get a 'crash course' in GPS info. This site's POI listings, FAQ's and the forum community we're extremely valuable.

I couldn't possibly give back equal to what I've taken and I don't have the first clue how to make the actual change to this POI list, but I have one contribution:

The "COSTCO Gas Stations - Western US" (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/3215) list is missing the San Luis Obispo Costco:

1540 Froom Ranch Way
San Luis Obispo, California 93401
http://www.costco.com/Warehouse/WarehouseDetails.aspx?Wareho...

Thanks again, everyone!

Frankly, his getting a little knowledge from here would be a dangerous thing for him -- and for me, since I'll have to clean up the mess. surprised

This is all mostly greek to him. It's been a struggle for him just to understand basic operations. I had to do all the software/map updates from Garmin etc. and wanted to get him a few, basic custom POIs that I know he'll need/use.

Understand

Robisan,
I understand. Hopefully he will catch on - but it will be enough if he just enjoys it.

enjoy

But your gaining plenty

It's possible. The biggest surprise to me in learning about GPS's is they're more than just devices to guide you around. The mobile yellow pages and custom POI's are a real value I hadn't considered. At some point I'm going to pull the trigger on either a GPS or a smartphone with GPS -- still looking at the advantages/disadvantages of each.

phone numbers

I used the POI information and retrieved phone numbers to make reservations to resturants. Thanks for reminding me....

Phone numbers in POI is a big plus

I was in Warren, Pa and called a hot dog shop that was listed in the POIs I downloaded here. The number was disconnected so I knew it was out of business.

While it would have only been a 10 mile out-of-the-way round trip, having the phone number, as well as name and address was a great benefit.
