Interesting report....

I know I have my preferences when it comes to my GPS voice. I have tried others and I still go back to my UK mistress: Kate. My wife also prefers Kate. All together now we have a threesome going on. Works for us.

The three of us too

My fiance and I both prefer "Australian Karen". Nice voice, and we feel some of the best, or at least most enjoyable, pronunciations.

I wonder if more couples are "open" and agree on the voice, or "keep their affair secret"?

I do have ot say though, that it does feel strange and a little lonely when I'm in someone else's car and they are using a different voice.

My "1st woman" hates Jill...

She is absolutely incensed that I pay more attention to Jill than to her. Of course, much of that is because Jill is 99.9% right, and my "1st woman" is 99.9% wrong--at least with respect to directions.

In fact, I've let Jill sit quietly a few times while my "other GPS" gives us directions--until we get lost that is. Funny though, how those mis-directions haven't stopped her from despising Jill.

Hmmm...just thought of a new name (that I must keep in secret to myself if I want to live)...Miss Direction...

Jill 2

While I also refer to Jill, even she (at times) has become confused. Telling me to turn down a road that is, in fact, a wooded area or ignoring roads that actually exist. Oh, I know I should update her... wait, I just did and still have those issues. LOL... "Jill" is just another woman in my life. smile

Gotta try French voices one of these days

I wonder if they are as funny as the ones you mention in our currently-spoken (well, typed, anyway) language.

For now all we have, are second-rate actors lending their voices. So my Ségo remains muted, and that's just fine grin

Australian Karen all the way!

I really like her voice the best.. especially with my voice editing.

Headed to Philmont Scout camp tomorrow with my first attempt at using a Garmin Etrex.. wish me luck!

She has a Facebook group: search for The GPS Girl.

She's got a website as well

The same search (GPS Karen or GPS Girl) should get you there.

My wife hates Karen. My daughter likes her voice as well and that annoys my wife no end. It is funny how she says names of Indian origin.

Could Garmin to create a TTS voice of the wife?

That would end the controversy? 8^)

Yeah riiiight.....

D'you wanna hear comments like "You prefer that computerized subversion of me, I'm dumpin' ya !" ???

That's why mine's in silent mode - also, my grandkids were telling me that I wasn't listening to the lady, and I had to make up some stories about her being jealous of my wife and our fantastic love story. And I was never sure how those girls were repeating that...

By the way, an international inside joke. In French, there's two explanations for the acronym GPS:

1. Guide du Paumé solitaire - Guide for Lonesome Looser;

2. Gourde qui Parle toute Seule - the Bitch that's Talkin' to Herself

I could do with some humorous comments, though - like you're mentioning in your comments ? But not in French, they don't wanna be humorous in French.

Sob...

Problem with Dr Nightmare is that he doesn't give street names-just turn in 400 feet.

pretty wild......

Are we on the verge of naming our GPS units ???? What happens if we 'break up'(buy a new unit).....will the former unit never speak to us again ?? HAHAHAHA

Naming our GPS units? Been there, done that, and there's a discussion about it: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1052

Well, you could create it yourself:

Been using voice Jack

Has me thinking now of using the voice editor and going to Jill or Australian Female and having them talk sweet to me. I had always used the guys voice because I didn't want a female telling me were to go. Already have my wife telling me how to drive. Glad she don't read the forum, if she did I sure she would tell me were to go. LOL

naming our GPS

My wife and kids named my GPS unit on the first trip we took with it. They only refer to the GPS by its name. I of coarse don't use the name but will answer to any questions they address to her name.

After seeing a picture of Karen, it is time to dump Jill and go with the Aussie gal. No shame!
