Lost Power Cord

While in the middle of a 3,500 mile trip to the Rocky Mts (from Illinois) the cord that powers the Garmin 255W broke. (the cord that plugs into the cigeratte lighter) This meant that, after the battery was run down, I had no Garmin. Bad news. Can I get a replacement somewhere? I don't know what happened to the cord. The little light doesn't come on and there is no power going into the Garmin. It worked one day and the next morning when I plugged it in, no power.

check the fuse

Sounds as if you have some homotrons loose in your electrical system blowing fuses. The tip unscrews and there is a fuse behind it. Check for a blown fuse.

Local Electronics Store

If checking the fuse (and replacing if neccessary) doesn't work, you could just go to a local electronics store that sells cell phone adapter cables for the car and pick up a cigarette lighter to USB cable. Shouln't be too expensive.

Best Buy, Target, etc.

I've seen Garmin replacement cords at Target, Best Buy, etc. They are located with the other GPS and Garmin accesories.

But, like others said already, I would check the fuse first and make sure the tip is screwed in tight.

I had the same problem

It turned out that one of the metal connectors on the side of the lighter end broke and it would not stay in the socket. (And apparently maintain ground.)
So I bought a new one from Amazon. Cost me about $12.00 I believe. Much sturdier than the original equipment cord.

Make sure the car's fuse hasn't blown

Push in the lighter and see if it gets hot...
