What Garmin GPS Should I Buy?

I am looking into the 765T but its an older unit should I still buy it or a newer unit. I need one with traffic. Any recommendations?

Does your area have traffic?

I have a 765t, but my area does not have traffic available. You can check at http://www.navteq.com/rdstraffic/
for the 765t coverage map.

For the money

in my opinion, it has all the features in one package including audio book and mp3 player not to mention bluetooth. I've used all those features, they work and are nice to have.
I just checked and none are on their website anymore but keep looking because I bought a second 765T with lifetime map updates from Costco and paid less than I did for my first unit.

Get the 1490T

Good unit

Get...

The model that has the most of the features you desire, at the price you're willing to pay...

I've got a 765t - and I'm satisfied with it.

that's the way I chose my 765t

Wait for the new 37xx Series

Seem to be much snazzier than the existing ones and you can get voice control as well.

nuvi stew

It seems like Garmin offers a dozen or more models of the nuvi at any one time; new ones are added, others discontinued. Often an older model is discounted and is a very good bargain, particularly with the ability to update to the latest maps one time for free. The list of features can be bewildering and most brick and mortar stores only carry 2 or 3 models to choose from.

Here's a link from another website that has a relatively current matrix of the nuvi models.

I have a 750 but if I was shopping, I definitely give the 765T strong consideration.

765t

765t has traffic, bluetooth and multipoint routing and works well for me.

.

I was asking the same question a month ago since I need to update the maps on my 200. After reading all the negative comments about the reliability of newer models, I decided to keep my 200, which works fine, and get lifetime map updates for it. So I won't be considering another GPS for 2-3 years. By then I'll know if the 3700 series is reliable. Those look great.

Stick with 765T

I asked the same question on another forum and the general consensus was that there is nothing better than the 765T with its existing bells and whistles.

There are other units out there but they all hve fewer features, in balance than the 765T.

In fact, I have now been convinced to keep my 360 as thre are no 765T available anymore!

265wt is pretty useful gps.

265wt is pretty useful gps.

I second that..

The 265wt works well for me too and there are some really good deals on this model out there.

Forget about the 765T. I

Forget about the 765T. I had the 765T before but ended upt returning it and get the 265T. The 265T actually has better bluetooth quality, better GPS reception and reliability. The 765T is good in terms of functions but does not carry them out well.

If you are looking for a new GPS now, should look at the 1390T or 1490T which is even better.

Numbers Numbness

I thought when I purchased my 885t I had done my homework and got the best unit available.
Right behind this NEW unit I found out it was obsolete within four months and now there are so many numbers being thrown around, it has become like a scene out of the excorcist.
The head is spinning around and around trying to figure out the different models.
But as long as my 885t continues to give me reasonable good service, I am good for now.
Choosing will never get you total agreement and many friends.
Go with your gut and the size of your wallet

I like the 1490t because of

I like the 1490t because of the larger and brighter 5" screen and louder speaker and free lifetime traffic. That replaced my 660 that had bluetooth, mp3, FM transmitter, and speaks street names. The 1490t had everything except for the mp3 and FM transmitter. I find that I do not use the mp3 feature enough and the FM transmitter is really finicky & static when trying to tune into an unused FM station especially when traveling to different cities. I had to search for new stations. It just was not worth the time to fiddle with the stations while driving.

At a discount

If this unit has all the features you want go for it. I am sure you will find it somewhere at a deep discount

I own...

a 360 and the 765T. Love my 765T but the 360 is a workhorse...never lets me down. Sometimes all the "extras" means a better chance something might go wrong!

Buy a 760 (or actually any of the 3 digit automotive navs with model numbers ending in '0' that do what you need them to). There are a number of excellent reasons for doing so;

1. They are is the last of the 700 series with the Parrot Bluetooth
2. They are the last of the 700 series with the Sirf chipset
3. They don't crash
4. They show secondary street details to 1.2 km (a quarter mile) zoom levels where newer ones only do that for 1/16 of a mile zooms
5. They always display the names of upcoming cross streets in the green banner box, so you aren't forced to zoom in to see what street is coming up as you simply drive along - and there's no question about whether you are approaching, or have just passed xxxxxx road.
6. Assuming you want the traffic feature, the one in the box of the XX0 series' is subscription based - if you subscribe to lifetime traffic - or if you get a 'lifetime' receiver from some kind soul who changed his nav and has an extra - you will not be bothered with ads.

As to why you should uy a 700 (or 800) series over a 200 series with the same feature set?

The higher numbered units have quick disconnect cradles - you wind up fumbling with that pesky USB power cable (and external mic cable, if you have one) when you go to remove the 200 series nav from it's cradle.
