New Garmin 1350

Just bought one. On my Nuvi 350 my SD card has a subdirectory Garmin\poi to put all the poi's I've downloaded here.

On my new Nuvi 1350, what's the directory structure to put poi's on my micro SD card?

I noted that the nuvi 1350 doesn't use the words "Custom POI's." It seems to use the word "Extras." I think that's where the poi's should show up when loaded.

Thanks for your help.

The 1350 when you touch where to,extras and custom pois last that will show the pois you have loaded to the unit.If you have custom pois on the sd card on the 350 just copy the file structure and paste to micro card for the 1350.

You will have to replace the mp3s you have for the 350 with wav files for the 1350 and install the sox.exe .See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 ,If you plan to use both units some users use the wav files for both units to make it easier to keep up with on updating.

Well, bought a 4 GB micro SD card for $8 at the MicroCenter, followed your suggestion about loading a slew of POI's, et voila, it all went well.

I also updated the software to version 4.3 with no difficulties.

I have yet to see if there are map updates but I haven't registered the unit yet. I have NA map version 2010.10. Are there updates available???

Thanks.
Fred

2011.10 is available

You need to update within 60 days to get your free update

Sounds good.Be sure to give some feedback on the unit after you have taken some test drives with it.Latest maps are 2011.10.

Garmin 1350

Thanks folks. Guess I need to register at the Garmin site & then download the updated maps.

Will get back once I've formed some opinions on the unit.

I already don't like the fact that each time I start the unit, it asks whether I want to store my Poi's in the internal memory. My 350 asks me & when I say no & don't ask me again, it doesn't.

I have already talked to Garmin about that and that is how it is designed. The only way to stop it is to put the POI's on the unit. In my opinion another one of Garmin's goof ups. My 750 worked the same way as your 350.

Yes, it's another case of the newer not quite being up to the standards of the older.

That is clearly a very bad management decision.

Fred

It's counter intuitive

Fred

It's really counter intuitive. Answer yes to storing them on the unit. The next screen should give you the options to skip the transfer and not to ask again. It won't ask again until you update the GPI file.

Garmin 1350

Thanks Box Car. Do you know that to be true for the 1350? I wouldn't want to inadvertently load them on the unit which only has 2 GB of onboard storage.

I did register & update the maps in the last hour (2011.10). Takes WAY too long for my liking.

Fred

@FZbar

Just curious on the download for the map update.Did you have to go through the new download process that was posted on the site a few weeks back that the 8x5 users posted?Page 2 see CraigW post on update. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/29015?page=1

It's the way it works on the

It's the way it works on the Nuvi line, at least the 3 digit ones. I've never played with one of the 1XXX series. Don't know if I would want to as mine works fine/

Charles - that didn't appear to be the download procedure I experienced in updating my maps to 2011.10. It had 3 bars across the screen with green small markers to delineate progress. It was completely automatic.

Box Car - my Nuvi 350 works similarly, but I hesitate to proceed on the 1350 by clicking yes for fear that it won't let me retract loading to the units memory rather than the micro SD card. Thanks though. Anyone know for sure on the 1350???

Fred

you can always

You can always delete the POI.GPI file from the unit using your computer's USB connection to the unit.

So you didn't get the question of standard or advanced installation. Maybe new process was only a one time deal or different for the 60 day update.I guess we will know when the new update comes out what process will be used.

Doesn't work

Doesn't work this way on the 1xxx series. Your only option is Yes - install them or No - don't install them. If you say No the message reappears each time you boot the Nuvi up with the card in the slot. mad

If you say Yes, you can delete them, as mentioned, by simply deleting the POI.GPI file from the Nuvi.

Also my experience has been that if you are attempting to load more POIs than the Nuvi has room for on its internal storage, you will get a warning about this and NO poi's will be loaded until you make room for ALL of them.

Thanks all, especially for the reminder about how to remove the extra POI's. I looked at the space remaining on the internal nuvi memory, & indeed, it was less than the additional POI's I was trying to load, so it would not have worked anyway.

The constant request to load poi's everytime it's turned on, however, is a real annoyance.

I've tried some local navigation near home & the unit appears to work well. I think my Nuvi 350 displays more street names on the map at equivalent magnifications than the 1350. The volume is very loud but clear, & I had to reduce it to 10% to stand it. And here I thought my 60+ ears were on the decline!!!

Fred

Thanks

I guess that's another reason not to upgrade.

It might help if enough people complain about the question to load the poi's everytime. I would email customer service with the complaint. I have done it.

An excellent suggestion. I have emailed them in the strongest words possible about their inferior software solution. While I have little hope they'll do anything, they ought to know that cutting corners is NOT what Garmin customers want to see, if they want to make future sales.

What happens if you have POILoader load to the 1350?

Have you done a backup? If not, do it now. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394

Hook to computer and change the extension to gpi.

This is an issue with the current version of Poi Loader.

Nuvi 2460LMT.

change .poi to .gpi

After loading with the poi loader, go to your POI.poi file on your SD card and replace .poi to .gpi

Should work

Oops. Sorry pwohlab. I didn't read your subject line.

Do what pwohlad says. He's the one who help me with this same problem with my 1490.
