Traffic icon showed up this morning

Never had traffic in my area before. This morning I turn the GPS on, Nuvi 265t, and had the icon. It stayed green all and never got an offer for a coupon whenever I stopped. Is there a way to tell if it is for traffic in my area or somewhere else? The reason I ask is after touching the icon, then choosing search traffic it has places about 122 miles away showing green. This is supposed to have the free life time traffic. Just curious.

Traffic

If there is traffic along the route that you are traveling, your screen will chnage color (get darker) and you should see hellow or red highlights adjacent to the road that you are on or possibly nearby roads that are affected. The traffic icon should be there most all the time and will be green unless you are headed into the traffic warning area.

I would think that the

I would think that the traffic icon would be there most of the time but if you live in an area where there is no radio station carrying the data signal, that would explain it. It's possible that radio conditions were enhanced the day you noticed the conditions, and your GPS was receiving a distant signal. Try this Navteq web site to see if your area has coverage.

The bright side

At least you know it works! grin

Not listed

My city is not on the list mentioned above. Either it is too new to be on the list, testing in the area or as mentioned a possible strong signal.

It would be nice to have traffic for my area. Though size wise we are a fairly small market we do get our fair share of congestion and there is a few roads that are main arteries that when blocked it is a disaster. Kinda like one road in same road out.

Clear Channel

You may want to add clear channel. It is only 60 dollars and it covers the area listed in your profile. http://www.totaltraffic.com/CoverageAreas/

One thing I noticed after

One thing I noticed after the most recent update for my Nuvi, was that the traffic icon now goes gray if it loses signal. It used to just go away. If you press on it, the page comes up, and says low signal for xx minutes.

I'm still using the free traffic that came with mine.

Unfortunately, the buggy 3.90 firmware on the 765T does that even in strong signal areas sad Free traffic is great, if it actually works...

Back to no traffic

Turned the GPS on this morning and there was no traffic signal. Guess it was a one day test or a fluke. Thanks for the additional info though.
