1490T New Issues

Just discovered two new issues with my Nuvi 1490T.

1. When you update to the latest 4.1 firmware update I found my blue tooth was very sporadic. Sometimes it would connect with the phone and load your contacts. Other times it would connect to the phone but no contacts would be loaded. I have an LG Dare VX9700 which shows on the Garmin site as one of the compatible phones. It worked perfectly prior to loading the update.

2. I change my voice to Jack and it stays the same until I shut it off. When I restart the unit it goes back to Jill every time. This even happens before you do the update. The only way to get rid of Jill is to delete her.

I spoke to Garmin about the issues and they couldn't figure anything out. Told me to return it as defective which I did got another and bingo same problems over again. The problem is the update is suppose to correct a bunch of other items and if you don't update you don't get those fixes. I personally think there are bugs crawling all over the new release. Once again Garmin issues updates to correct problems and the fix causes other issues. I have decided on this latest unit I got I am not going to do the update unless I absolutely have to. If there is ever another update I will have to think very hard about installing it. I don't think Garmin has a unit out there that doesn't have problems of some kind. I am not aware of any unit that Garmin has released that has not had update after update after update. What a shame.

As you should

As you should after all firmware updates, did you do a reset? This solves many of these type of issues.

I updated my 1490 on the weekend and find that the BT function works just the opposite to yours. I now get my phonebook loaded everytime. Prior to the update it was "hit and miss".

No problem with the voices on my unit.

Customer support did everything possible including reloading the update....

Sounds like the 1490T saga continues...

Thanks to all brave souls who've done the update. I think I'll try to wait for the 5.0 update or some such thing so that they will have had a chance to fix the new problems created by 4.0, 4.1, 4.2,...4.9.

BTW, you may want to link to this thread on the same subject http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28736

brave souls

Wait for 5.0,
That is the way to go!

Geesh

Welcome to the 7x5 club! My Nuvi 765T with 3.90 is very erratic. Users running the earlier 3.60 had no problems. Sounds like you take your life into your hands every time Garmin releases a firmware update these day. Not a good sign for the future...
