Free turn-by-turn navigation available for iPhones

A German outfit has made it's turn-by-turn navigation system available for free as an iPhone app. Read about it at this link:

I think I just heard my Nuvi 265wt start to whine.

Clicking to get the app on the web site sends one to iTunes where a banner pops up saying it's not available in the US, but that you can buy it from the UK store.

skobbler navigation

iTunes store - search for skobbler - select skobbler navigation

kinda quirky though

I prefer Waze (watch pacman eat the roads)
it is possible to add missing roads as you drive

or

MotionX gps

The Navigon app (paid) has been cleaned up and works reasonably well

Skobbler

Skobbler tried to get me to turn left on a railroad track on the way home this morning.
No road in sight.
But the maps are updated by users so the more errors reported makes the maps more accurate over time.
Good idea if enough people use it.

That is a scary thought

This could be good or bad! Hopefully they have a good process to maintain QC.

OP, thanks for the info. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks

Good News

This is good news. Competition is a good thing and I'm betting it will help all of us.

I'm not too thrilled with

I'm not too thrilled with it. It doesn't seem to re-route too well and it's too slow. Maybe it'll work better on the 3gs instead of the 3g?

Not free but close

There is a app for 2.99 called Ndrive USA.
Dunno if its any good but somewhat on the cheap $$$ side

MotionX GPS

Had my first encounter with it on a trip with some friends two weekends ago where it seemed to work better than a nuvi 200 that the driver was using when we were on a long trip. So I downloaded the app, and gave it a little try locally this past weekend, and was under whelmed by it. Very slow updating, odd routing, and confusing to use.

Have people found a better program in the last few months? I get tired of wasting my money, even if it's just $0.99 at a time, on junk.
