See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 and http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .The 465 does not play mp3's so you will need to use wav files to get the alerts.

Thanks bud

I have tried following the

I have tried following the instructions, however, I'm still not seeing icons on my gps, although the poi loader states that all loaded properly. I thought I was pretty good at this but....
I'm still confused with renaming the files, unzipping them etc.

Try Simulating A Route...

or driving to a known location.

Then zoom in and see if the icon appears.

I did this with the National Monument file and icon, to test my load, and didn't see it unless i was zoomed in far enough.

The icons are not going to show unless you zoom in close or when you get close to the destination.Garmin does not want to clutter screen with icons. If you want to check one of your custom icons.Go to where to,extras, touch custom pois.Select one of the custom pois you have icon for.Don't hit go.Select map at bottom of screen and if done correctly you will see your custom icon.

Renaming the files just make sure you name your icon and alert the same as your gpx or csv file.Put them in the same folder. Example

Cracker Barrel.csv
Cracker Barrel.bmp
Cracker Barrel.wav

Make sure to check for double extensions per the instruction in the link I posted.

Ok so I have done all by the instr. tried just in town and still no icons and or alerts.
I have tried using the phone (blue-tooth) and its not dialing out. Anyone had these issues ??

Send me a email at my contact tab http://www.poi-factory.com/user/34273 .You don't have your contact tab on so I can't email you.I need to look at the files you are loading. The alerts may not be working if you have the sox.exe in the wrong location.Or you have double extensions in the file name.

The alerts will not work if the coordinates are located more then 50 ft off the road of travel unless you have selected go and within the distance you set with poiloader in manual mode.

You have to have gpx files for Bluetooth to have dialable numbers.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6203

Custom POI Alerts - How they work

After downloading and modifying various truckstop and rest area POIs, I used POI loader and sox.exe to upload them to my Nuvi465t in manual mode, and attached varous distances to each file (usually between 5 and 10 miles, but one set to 30 miles (in feet, of course). BTW, the max is 37 miles (in feet)
The rest area poi worked just fine.
Of the others, I found it odd that if I chose a particular truck stop and put it in route, that one stop would alert, but none of the others would.
I checked, and it turns out (per Garmin), that if a particular POI is not within 30 meters (90 feet) of your route of travel, you won't get an alert, no matter what distance you have the alert set at.
Of the truck stop files on here (and on the web from each vendor (Petro, Flying J, Road Ranger, Pilot, TA, Bosselmans), some have their locations set to the middle of the actual location (which is of course, off the highway near an off/on ramp and of course won't alert if you aren't heading down that offramp), and some set their location on the highway/road just before the exit you have to take to get to that location. Petro, for one.
While my intent was to know what is coming up before the billboards told me, it turns out it won't work that way.
As for Petro, they can only put in one set of coordinates, so if you don't set your alert out far enough, you could miss the exit by the time you got notified one was nearby, although I'd expect by then a billboard would have alerted you.
So I've changed my approach to using POIs as I intended.
Now, I'm going through each POI file I have for truck stops and ensuring the coordinates provided are for the truck entrance. Rather than have an alert set up for distance, which would be moot, I'm going to just get good at using the 'near' feature, as well as the "where to", POI, Truck Stop file feature, to figure out which one is the best one to stop at for my 10 hour break. On the fly, I can choose it from there. If I'm routed to a particular one for fuel by the company, I just go to that particulart poi group (pilot/petro/etc.) and find the corresponding location by name or address (usually a store number and a particular highway and exit number combination).
So for those of you who've been scratching their heads trying to figure out why some work and some don't, perhaps this answered your question, as I hadn't seen this 90 feet issue mentioned before.

RE: Custom POI Alerts - How they work

Falcon1: You can also play with TourGuide in the file name which sets a radial alert distance rather than an along the route of travel alert. As an example:

FlyingJ TourGuide.csv
FlyingJ TourGuide.BMP
FlyingJ TourGuide.WAV

with an alert distance of 10500 would give you an alert if the truck stop is within approximately 2 miles of your current location.
