So I've started to contribute to the conversations and noted that if I post a comment, I'm returned to the first post of the thread...

Why not to the end (and most recent post) of the thread so I can proof read my post and any subsequent or simultaneous posts?

Or is that an option in my account I haven't realized?

Thanx in advance

When you click on "add new

When you click on "add new comment" you are taken to the comment page and the original post is displayed at the top of that page for reference. After you select "post comment", you should be taken to the end of all the posts with your new post displaying.
At least that's how it works for me.

Use 'Preview' instead for proof-reading.

I have always just hit reply on the last person to post a message in the conversation. This leaves me at the end of the Forum. May be incorrect way for posting:-p.

I have found that if there is only one page.............

I have found that if there is only one page in the thread it takes me to my new posting at the end of that page but if there is more than one page in the thread it returns me to the top post on the first page.

Because I only ever see that on the first post. All the rest have "reply" (in addition or "quote")

But that's not the point nor was it helpful in answering the actual question...

...though it seems that there are a number of different perceptions of how the forum operates.
