Set alert distance for Red Light Camera

Hello
I am trying to load RLC file into the SD card of my 255W along with other custom POI files as a batch. To my understanding, I have to load manualy in order to set the proximity alert for the RLC . My question is : Will the set proximity alerts affect the rest of POI's since I have to load them all at once as a batch into custom POI folder of SD card? or I have to load the RLC directly into the 255W and the rest into SD card
Thanks for your help.

POI Loader in manual

When you run POI Loader in manual it asks about each file in the input folder. Setting a distance or speed alert for one file will not affect the others.

Redlightcameras will give

Redlight cameras will give you a 1/4 mile alert using express mode. You only need to use manual if you want to change that.

When running poiloader in the manual mode it will go through each custom poi file. You just set the alert for the ones you want. The ones you don't want alert for just click next not skip.

Automatic or Manual

You can use auto or manual depending on how customized you want to make different POIs.

You should have several subfolders (red light cameras, McDonalds etc.) in the main POI folder on your PC.

If you are using POI Loader in auto, all the POIs will be loaded in a batch, all with a proximity of 1320 feet.

If you run POI Loader in manual, it will show a screen for each subfolder asking what you want to do. Is this folder proximity and what distance? Is it speed and what speed? You might want McDonalds at 1320 feet and red light cameras at 500 feet.

If you drive in downtown Chicago, you could separate the red light camera file into two files in two subfolders, downtown Chicago red light cameras, and every other red light camera in the country. Then you could enter 500 feet for Chicago and 1000 feet for the rest of the country.

You can make it as simple or complex as you want.

Thank you all for your quick

Thank you all for your quick and helpfull replies. One little question is: How can I split the RLC file into 2 separate files, one for my area (California) and one for the rest of US as dobs108 mentioned.
Thank again for helping me out

And Also...

Charles is right, and you can also right-click on the .csv file and click on "open with" Notepad for an even simpler way to do it than Excel.

1/8 mile (660 feet) seems to

1/8 mile (660 feet) seems to work best for me. 1/4 mile is too far away in my opinion. At 1/4 mile there may be one intersection to pass through before reaching the redlight camera intersection. This is especially true in conjested areas.

If you are more concerned with redlight cameras on roads with higher speeds, then the default alert distance of 1/4 mile may be best. Personally, I'm more concerned with redlight cameras on city streets - because there's a lot more of them.

I have found that 1/8 mile (660 feet) is the perfect alert distance.

Auto or manual

dobs-so if I duplicate the red light file I can set different proximity alerts depending on where I am? I live in Chicago, and would like to have shorter distances for the times I'm in the city as it picks up too many adjacent street cameras at 1320 ft, but I need the 1320 when I'm on the highways in the burbs.

Divide the Red Light Camera File

First save the POI Factory red light camera file to another folder to back it up. It is a .csv file which is just plain text. Open the file in Excel or Notepad, whichever you prefer. Each line is one location. Sort Chicago locations by viewing each line or doing a control-F search, for example for IL. Delete all others and save only the Chicago locations to a different file name (for example, save as Chicago Red Light Cameras.csv) in a subfolder named Chicago Red Light Cameras, in the folder Custom POIs, (or whatever you named it) the folder that POI Loader looks at. Sort all other locations the same way (without Chicago) and save as US Red Light Cameras.csv in a folder of the same name, also in Custom POIs. Run POI Loader in manual. Each subfolder will come up in turn for you to make custom entries. For Chicago, choose proximity alert, and enter a short distance such as 500 or 600 feet. For US, choose proximity alert, and enter a longer distance such as 1000 or 1320 feet. This will result in a shorter distance for city streets where the intersections are close together and the speed limit is low, and a longer distance out in the country.
