My vehicles won't stay changed on Nuvi 500

I have had my new 500 for about a week and love it. Though most process aren't really intuitive for me I am finding my way around it.
I have set different vehicles for different modes, but, then the next time I go to that mode, they have reset back to the vehicles that came on the Nuvi 500.
How do I get the gps to keep my vehicle settings??

The vehicle icon is a universal setting. It's not part of the "usage modes". Only the routing and navigation are affected by the usage mode chosen.

On my Nuvi 500 it came pre-loaded with different "vehicles" for each of the different travel modes. Car for auto mode, bike for bike mode, walking feet for foot mode, ect.
There is not one "universal" vehicle for all of the modes, so the vehicle seems to be dependent on the mode chosen. However, when I change the vehicle for foot travel for instance from walking feet to R2D2 for instance, it does not stay changed. The next time I choose foot travel, it has gone back to the walking feet. Why??
