BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Automated red-light cameras and speed radar vans generated more traffic tickets than police officers in Boulder last year.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported Thursday that city records show the automated cameras and vans were responsible for more than 45,450 traffic citations in 2009. That is a 16 percent increase from the previous year.

Officers, meanwhile, ticketed more than 15,300 motorists in 2009, a decline of 17 percent from 2008.

A Boulder transportation official says the city has permission from the Colorado Department of Transportation to put up at least four more cameras but there are no immediate plans to do so.
