Johnson City TN is placing some new cameras up. I heard it on the news the other day. Does anyone need me to get the coordinates or anything to go int the updated POI? Or is their someone living in JC on here that could get them? I'm in Bristol but drive down there sometimes.
New Cameras
Are they red light cameras or speed cameras? (and what speed?) If the city or the news has published the locations of the cameras you might not have to go there to get the coordinates. I use Google Earth to place the POI near the middle of the intersection. It would be good to get the direction of travel for each street; all of them might not have a camera. Miss POI appreciates all the info you can send her.

They are Red light cameras.
They are Red light cameras.
here is a link to the article. It also has other related links on that page. I have no problem with cameras, I don't run lights intentional, who does?? I suppose there may be a few who do, mainly because of going to fast in the first place, seems to me they need speed cameras instead of red light cameras. But I think the only reason for these cameras is money income. If they were really worried about motor safety they would place up speed cameras I would think? Or how about a nice fat speed bump?

Speed Bumps
Speed Bumps, unfortunately, are a hinderance to emergency vehicles.
Interesting...

Just a matter of time before it's outlawed though I'm sure.
Speed Bumps
Good point but are they not suppose to be driving the speed limit themselves?

I believe these red light cameras are already are in the file.

of course!!!
It would be great to have these new RLC's in the file
The only RLC in Johnson City, TN is at Market & State of Franklin. There are plans to install several RLC's in this area. A listing or the coordinates would be a nice addition to the current database of red light cameras.

Good deal! Thanks PCPro. Nice to see others that live in this area here at the POI factory...thought maybe I was the only one.
Safety vs. Revenue?
City officials will argue that RLC are for the safety of the public - BS.
They are an ATM (automated ticketing machine) for the sole purpose of revenue. More income, means more wasteful spending. More money doesn't fix existing money problems - when is local government going to learn this?
Here is an idea. For every dollar received by the ATM money machine, credit the residence on their property tax. This way, the RLC is truely a safety device - and a benefit to the community. Or 100% of the proceeds goto the local school districts. Heck, give it to charity!

There are 3 new red light cameras up and going in Johnson City, Tn. State of Franklin road intersections.
I hate the "safety"
I hate the "safety" argument, because I think it's total BS. They're revenue generators pure and simple.
