Nag Notice

My Garmin 750 is now more than 1-year old and when I power up I am getting a "map out of date" nag notice that does not go away on its own. I do not wish to update at this time. Any one know how to delete this message ???

Same on my 680.

Help!

Nag

I haven't seen a fix for this other then upgrading your maps. But it shouldnt nag you everytime you start up your gps. I think when I had the screen it would pop up once in one or two weeks of daily use.

Maybe twice a month on my 750

My 1.5 year old 750 only nags me about updating the maps about once or twice a month. I wonder if the "nags" become more frequent the longer you put off updating the maps? question

On my 200W, the map update

On my 200W, the map update message would appear the very first time, regardless of whether I was running on battery power or using the car cord. If I was running on battery power, shut down the GPS, then turned it back on, the map update message would appear again. If using the car cord, shutting down the GPS then turning it back on would take me back to the "Where To" screen, thus bypassing the map update message. This is because on the car cord, the GPS never truly shuts down, instead going into battery charge mode.

I would recommend updating the maps, but if you choose not to, simply hit the button the very first time then leave the GPS on the car cord.

My 765t just did that also, for the first time. Shut it down and powered it up and it didn't come back...YET. I also have 2010.4 installed. Some one have an answer on how to get rid of that nag? There's not even a new map out yet, so what's it talking about?

Try this, change the date of the gmapsupp.img and it's folder to today's date. You can find a utility that will do this at the link below to see.

Always Back up your GPSr before doing this.

I have an idea

I have an idea but I haven't tried it so I can't say it does or doesn't work.

In one of other topics our member TurboCCC described a way to replace the Warning Screen with text that could contain our personal information. All these texts and messages are hidden in a file called en_GB.glx. My understanding is that the name and extension of the file varies between different Nuvi models. I have a 1250T so most likely all 1xxx models have the same name. The file is located in Garmin/Text/en_GB.glx. It can be opened and modified using any text editor. American English version is hidden and it can't be modified but British English version is available for modification. I even corrected all words that are spelled differently than in American English like colour, favourite etc., and changed language name as well. Once finished you have to switch to British English as your text language, or if you (as I did) change the name (in the first line of the file "< catalog pnumber="006-D1433-00" file_version="2.60" language="en_GB" display_name="British English" direction="0" codepage="utf-8" >) to whatever name you gave as your text language. Although the file is quiet long and English is my second language it didn't take me more than 10 min. to correct the whole file using MS Word and spell checker.

The command lines containing "map update" message look like:

< entry handle = "STR_AUF_UPDATE_MAP_DATA" >
< strings >
< string default = "true" >
< visual >This map data is more than a year old and should be updated:< /visual >
< /string >
< /strings >
< usage visual ="true"/ >
< /entry >

Now changing of the message will work, there is no doubt, but I would even try deleting all these lines to see if message goes away for good. I'm not receiving this message, otherwise I would try it on my GPS. We need another brave soul smile

Make sure you backup your original file before doing any modifications.

Did you at some point send maps from a previous map version from MapSource?

Does more than one map show up when you go to Settings/Wrench > Map > Map Info ?

Is there a GMAPSUPP.IMG file on the unit?

Nag notice

1)Don't use Mapsource, fired it up to do the Mapsource update only.
2)Just have the two 2010.40 showing. 2d and 3d
3)No GMAPSUPP.IMG just a GUPDATE.GCD

It came with .30. did the update via garmin_rmu_cnnant2010_40.exe
