GPS Tethering

I have several GPS devices. They are:

-Garmin StreetPilot 2730

-Garmin Nuvi 500

-Garmin Nuvifone G60

-Pharos GPS Phone 600 with Garmin Mobile XT

I am just wondering if anybody happens to know if it is possible to tether any of those devices to display on a Dell Min1 10 netbook under Windows Mobile XT?

There are times on longer trips when my wife would like to follow out trip on a larger display.

I believe most garmin device can be used as an external gps receiver. But I don't know about the Mobile XT part. You may need another mapping software. (e.g. Microsoft MapPoint, Google Earth)

Here is a faq page from google earth, take a look at the last section:

I think it may need a serial port or at least be specifically listed as functioning as a standalone receiver. Some of the eTrex models will do this.

Big screen GPS

I have MS Streets and Trips on my lap top- and an external GPS antenna-- so it works as a big screen GPS. Found the antenna at Frys Electronics for $29.

This might be a better way to do it. Total cost less than $100.

I use my eTrex HCx with GPSGate and MS Streets and Trips on my laptop but I'm not sure if the models you have will work. BTW, both MS Streets and Trips and GPS Gate have free trials so you can try them out first before buying them.
