Help!!! Please!! Nuvi 1300 botched up catagories

I messed up my Nuvi 1300 crying

Somehow I corrupted the files and have all of these strange catagories in my "Favorites". Example: 2010-01-19t15:30:26z and many multitudes like it.
If I press the catagory a corrct entery will be listed. (Like a food store or something)
I have put so much time in loading up my favorites, changing the symbol and editing the catagories.

I dont know where the "junk" catagories came from.

Here is what I have done today.

Loaded the wallmart POIs
upgraded Garmen agent to 2.9
upgraded firmware
I discovered that walmart POIs were actually built in.
Deleted POIs (Via poi loader)

How do I delete the categories I dont want? Deselecting them does not fully delete them.

I am tempted to delete all of the GPX files out of the directory but do not know what the ramifications would be. (There is 1 big file and a whole bunch of smaller 1k size files.

please please help

Thanks so much for your time reading this pity full post.

Which directory

Which directory has all the GPX files? Is it the \Garmin\GPX directory? Is one of the files CURRENT.GPX? If this is the directory you are referring to, then you can delete all the GPX files. Current.gpx is a copy of what is in your favorites and will be recreated. Perhaps the best way to "clean it out" would be a hard reset and that could result in the loss of all your personal data as it can take the unit back to the same state it was when you took it from the box.

If the GPX directory had other required files, they will either be recreated or you will be told to use web updater and check for additional updates.

yes thats the directory

Hello A_User,

Yes, the directory you mentioned is the directory with the files. Thanks for the clarification for what the "Current.gpx" file does.

I guess Ill have to do what I have to do... recreate all of my favorites after clearing the DIR. I wish I knew how I clobbered up the categories.

Thanks again

Before you leap...

If you haven't already secured a copy, download TurboCCC's Extra POI Editor. This program will allow you to load your favorites and display them. You can then copy the contents to your computer. Once there, you can then clean everything out. Use EPE to edit the Current.GPX file to remove entries you don't want and save it to the 1300 as TEMP.GPX. The Garmin OS will read this file and use it to rebuild your favorites.

When you download the program if you get message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download. Once installation is completed you will need to set up the preferences you want first. Under options click on preferences. For example using ft for input. Under units you will see editor, select Imperial/US. For Field Read select metric and Field save select Metric.

Once you have program loaded connect gps unit to computer and select Open Garmin Favorites listed under file.
