coming home from a trip using a custom route

i used google maps and created a custom route that i then loaded into my Garmin Nuvi 1300 but i was just thinking, what about when i go home and i want to take the same route?? do i have to load a custom route from the destination back home? question

Custom route

The 1300 does not have the route feature.Do you mean you saved the locations as favorites or custom pois?

saved routes

charlesd45 is correct, the 1300 series does not allow you to save routes so you have to reenter the via points each time you create the route. If you want the feature for saved multipoint routes in the 1xxx series, you need a 14xx or 1690.

Reverse A Route

Why can't a route be used in reverse? My 760 should have this feature, but does not. When via points are used, I understand that sometimes they are on one side of an interstate and can't be used for the return trip. This is something Garmin should offer. Does anybody have a workaround?

Reverse A Route

@dobs108: If you have Mapsource, you can reverse the route. Click on "Invert" in the Route Properties

Route reversal.

Dobs108,
Assuming you have a route with a lot of via's saved in Custom routes, here is one way to reverse the route:

1) Go into Custom Routes Edit - Manually reorder points.
2) Move the start point to the end. Move the end point to the start.
3) Go to "Next", let the route recalculate and Save it (this will be a "goofy" route at this point)
4) Now select "Optimally reorder points", "Next", recalculate and save.

Your route is now reversed. You may also have to make some lane adjustments as you noted earlier. This method works pretty well if your via's in the original route are in "optimal" sequence.

There aren't any Garmin auto units (I do not believe) that have this functionality. Not even the Zumo 550 has it.

You have to do it in MapSource. Or use the clunky work around as noted above of swapping the start and end points.

The problem with reversing a route on street maps is that you can't necessarily go back the way you came due to one-way streets, interstates, divided highways, etc.

Thanks

Thanks, there are two ways to try.

They Once Did

Earlier Garmin models 'did' allow you to reverse a route. In fact you could turn on/off the breadcrumb (route) feature (eliminating storage of side trips) or simply reverse a stored track. This was used a lot with my StreetPilot 2610. For some reason Garmin eliminated that handy feature in the Nuvi line (it may still be available in models designed for motorcycle use).

Two potential workarounds:

1. Clear the stored track when starting on a trip and allow the GPS to display the blue line. When returning from the trip just follow the blue line on the display back.

2. Create the route in Mapsource and save it twice. First as the route you created then reverse it and save again. Load both into the GPS before leaving on the trip.

Cheers wink

i dont understand

i saved the route i made using google maps and loaded it into my Nuvi 1300 and it is in "favorites" folder. I viewed it and it is the one that i saved. are you saying that it wont follow that route if i choose it?

Your Route

The route should work if it's been saved as a favorite to your GPS.
