US and State route numbers

The Garmin 1390T uses street names instead of route numbers. Is there a way to make the Garmin tell me street numbers and the names?

Not all the time.....

In an urban environment that might be true but many places away from a major city, the routes don't HAVE a name; just the number.....like US66 or SR40 or IL40.

Most models that I have seen give you both designations when you are ON that street/road or about to turn onto one. They will also give you the full name (if known) if you position the map display there and position the "pointer" on the road in question.

I'm not familiar with your particular model so that general information might be useless to you. Hope not.

Thanks for the update - I

Thanks for the update - I notice that when the tomtom tells you to turn it states both the route number and street name, whereas the garmin states one or the other.

Garmin is not consistent

Even worse, the Nuvi may show CR-22 on the map display, but the green bar will say "Smith Road". Sometimes the green bar will show both, like "Smith Road/CR-22". The turn guidance will say to turn on County Route 22 but there are no route signs posted, only the street name. For both my Nuvi 350 and 760, this behavior started with the 2009 maps.

That gets old

That get old pretty fast however. The TomTom will drive you nuts when it starts reading off the interstate number, every state highway that shares the interstate at that point, and the name that has been given to the road to honor someone or something.

I guess I want the garmin to

I guess I want the garmin to use whatever designation is used in that particular area/road. Probably no perfect answer to this one.

US and State route numbers

I had the same thing happen with my 765t. I noticed it the other day for the first time, going home it showed the cross street as Hwy.7, we call it Lougheed Hwy, street sign says that also. Now I also know that as you come into town it changes from hwy 7 to Lougheed Hwy. The other quirk it has that it can't find my street address. I live at 8710 but it can't find that number, it finds 9660 only. It could be a pain if your traveling out of town.

US and State Route Numbers

Is that a 'feature' or bug? Has it always been this way. I have been using my 255w for a few days on familiar days and it has me confused because the map shows route #'s and when I navigate it uses local names? Then I forget what road I am on if I am navigating. It has actually got me a little disoriented where my little car spins in circles, but it told me to turn left on a divided highway when you can't and it took me down a closed road. But I did take it to areas unfamilar to me and it got me where I was going.

took me down a closed road

You might want to recheck you settings, making sure its not set for off road, and such. If you have topo maps don't have them checked, if your on the road. My old 260W took me down the garden path when i left topo maps highlighted in conjunction with north american american maps. Consequently when i went fishing to a remote Lake it took me the way the crow fly's laugh out loud
Not good when your towing a trailer.

Ok, I noticed something odd

Ok, I noticed something odd about my 255w. When I am on the interstate it announces my exit to turn left on rt 222. But when I am local it will say turn left on perryville road. It seems like it knows the same road as both the route# and local name and uses the route# when turning onto it from an interstate but uses the local name when turning onto the road from a local road. Am I going nuts?

Something Odd

I haven't figured it out - sometimes my 755t gives names, sometimes route numbers, & sometimes both. Many routes change names, so it can be very frustrating. What's also odd is that it will sometimes pronouce Fairfax County Parkway as "Fairfax County Parkway" and other times as "Fairfax Company Parkway".

Yes, you're going nuts

And your Nuvi is taking you there.

I have noticed the same inconsistencies with my Nuvi 350 and 760. What I also notice is that the green bar at the top showing next turn will say turn left on Smith Road but the voice prompt may say turn left on Route 22.
