So I got the Mac POI loader and can't get it to accept any files. They just come up as grey, so I can't select them. Any thoughts??
I had problems the other day also - wrote e-mail to tech support @ Garmin. That was late Thursday and they "might" have had Friday off ! No response yet! I got to the point of setting up proximity alarms but there was no window for auto or manual - allowed me to select feet/meters but not distance or speed. then it said it was unable to communicate with my C330 ! I then used the Mac beta Webupdater and it worked fine so there was really no problem with my set-up - just with the POI Loader software ! Anyway - waiting for response from Tech support who I have found to be quite good at responding !
I've tried the POI Loader is does work but as MrKenFl stated there are no options. I still perfer to use the Mac Garmin Tools. http://www.hearsay.demon.co.uk/mac/MacGarminTools/.
You could also try Simon Slavin's excellent tool set located at
Simon has been hand holding me through my POI adventures. Very helpful and quick to respond to questions.
Remember the Garmin Mac POI loader is Beta and doesn't have all the options of the PC version activated yet.
I have tested it my self though and had no problems.
yea but... it doesn't recognize any files. That's pretty lame, even for beta.
well... please keep us posted
When the POI Loader finds something it does not like it just puts up a cryptic message and quits. I guess that’s why it is still beta! The one thing I know it does not like is "&" in the name.
All the .csv files and .gsx files just come up grey and I can't open them in the loader. Anybody else have this problem???? It'd be amazing to get the speed trap and red light poi's. Not really looking to fine every walmart in existence. Best...
OH! Just select the folder. It will process all the files in that folder and all sub-folders!
duh... that did it. Thanks... W
As I stated in my post, It works 100% fine for me. Other than the missing options...
If there is a problem on your system, that is a BUG that you should report to Garmin and they will need to work out.
Heard back from tech support at Garmin re: Mac POI Loader error messages and sent off revised info to them.
"Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
It sounds as though everything should be working properly (especially
since WebUpdater seems to function properly). However, since the
software is still in beta, I don't have a solution for this problem at
I'll see if I can do some testing, and pass this on to the developers. "
and the following I sent back to Tech support:
"Two other pieces of information :
1. Google Earth Plus was able to retrieve all my Favorites from
my C330 so that, again, should verify that there really is no
communication problem. This was with the MAC
2. I just remembered that the MAC Beta POI software did not have an
input "section" to allow me to set a "proximity alarm" distance
or speed before it said I had an "error communicating" . This was
reported by many users on the "POI Factory Website" also !
Again, I have no problems uploading updated POI files with a friends
laptop PC "
Just recently I started discovering the POI part of my Garmin 2720 and the Mac.
I've yet to get the WebUpdater to work, it stops when I click to update. (Used wife's Windows machine to update the unit)
The Mac Beta POI software works great most of the time...does hang every now and then. About time the Mac seeing some support..
Great site here!!
I too are unable to load POI with Beta loader I get error message:error communicating with your device." If someone finds a solution let me know!
POI Loader version 2.01 dated 7/25/07 available now - no longer beta.New version still didn't allow me to set proximity alarms manually !
I'll have to "tickle" Garmin tech support again about the manual proximity alarm feature !
Remember if you are using a C330 (and maybe some others) - you must be using GPS software version 5.50 for POI loader for Mac to load properly !
Thanks for this big help.
Being clueless must go along with being over 50.
