Cutom audio alerts on new garmin nuvi without mp3?

I have owned Nuvi's that have the mp3 feature and was able to set up custom audio alerts. My question is, Is there anyway to have custom audio alerts on a nuvi that does not have a mp3 player built in?

Thanks

Audio Alerts

Use *.wav files.

Fred

SOX

You also need the SOX.EXE program. You will find a good tutorial here: http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/pagepoi.02.htm#...

Volume

Any recommendation for a program (possible free) for recording to .wav or at least to let me increase volume for the custom alerts I have? TTS voice on my unit is much louder than alerts I'd like to use.

You can make your own wav

You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or record.

I use Audacity

I use audacity. It's available on Soundforge and is a free down load. It is a very powerful program and very good with sound files of all types.

If you create wave files at the AT&T site, I usually do a bass boost of about 3 db then apply equalization and then bump the volume up to 95%. Makes the alerts sound great over the p-poor speakers in the unit and really superb over the car stereo.

Thank you

@charlesd45 & a_user

If you have

If you already have .mp3 files you can convert them to .wav files using software like the free Audacity program, available free from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
