Riddle me this, different Mileage statistics

On My 255w I am still a newbie, will admit that for now. If I go into a custom POIN for say Wendy's, it shows the list of Restaurants with mileage. For example, it may say 18 miles. Then if I click on it, the little route info box pops up and says 22.4 miles. Is the box actually adding the mileage and the other is estimating? What's the deal. Also it is great that it tells me arrival time, but is there a way to tell mileage remaining? I think the answer is no.

The little green box tells you the actual distance; the first tells you a straight-line calculation. The distance remaining is shown by pressing the Arrival Time icon and changing the option.
When all else fails, press buttons or icons because they will tell you things and give options!

All POI's, both custom and built-in, act in this manner. When you initially look at the POI list the unit shows you straight line distance. Once you select a specific POI the unit then calculates the route and shows you the actual driving distance.
If the unit had to calculcate actual driving distance to every POI then it would take forever for the list to initially be generated.
