nuvi 7x5 series Timezone map released

Tis true, I just got an email about the timezone map being released. You beat me to the post.

Is this just the map information regarding where one time zone ends and another begins?

I wonder what could possibly change about this information such that an update is required. Other than odd Daylight Saving time states like Hawaii and Arizona, I can't think of what would be adjusted.

The Timezone map is what allows the nuvi to automatically reset it's time according to which Timezone you're in.

GPS Hotfix data also released...

Just traveled from Dallas to Phoenix with a overnight in El Paso using my 755T. The time changed automatically but not exact where the time zone marker was displayed along the road. I also noticed the arrival time at the destination was adjusted for the time zone change as soon as we selected the custom route. I'll have to load the new map and see if it changes the time closer to the sign than the old one.

The auto time zone feature is one of the few things I like better about my 755T over the 855.

if you could only keep one of the two which would you keep? Thanks for your input in my next purchase choice.755 vs 855

At this point, the 855 without hesitation. In addition to the auto time zone, I miss the configurable data field on the navigation screen that the 755 has and the 855 doesn't have. I don't care about the 3d buildings or Ecoroute on the 755. I don't care much about the traffic service since I don't get a signal where I live, and I can always add a traffic service to the 855 if I want it.

On the 855, I like the additional map detail, the route custom avoid feature, the voice recognition, the extra bright screen, the removable battery. I will probably keep both, but if I decide to give one up, I think the 855 is the keeper.

Hmm, there was no hotfix listed in the webupdater, just the timezone fix.

This is just an internal database update for the timezones? I was trying to find a timezone map on my 255 after the update and couldn't find one.

As I posted previously:

If your unit has a Timezone map, it will be in the Garmin folder named gmaptz.img

for all 700 units?

xx5 series units only (2x5/7x5/etc.)

Thanks for this thread... I performed the online update however, I could not find where this application shows up? Any hints - already looked in both the Menu / World Clock & Menu / & Menu / Settings / Time. Thanks much ahead of time.

It does not "show up" anywhere on the nuvi itself as "an application". The update is simply an internal map which the nuvi uses to automatically set the unit's clock according to what time zone the GPS is in.

If you have a timezone map on the unit, it will be in the x:\Garmin folder and will be named "gmaptz.img".

Also, units that support/use a timezone map will NOT have the ability to change the time zone on the unit under Tools>Settings>Time.

Units that do NOT support the timezone map require that the timezone be manually set on the GPS under Tools>Settings>Time>Time Zone.

Wish it would include the 600 models

Great feature expecially if you drive across the country.
