Strange for Garmin to be missing these features

I just upgraded from a Pharos 150 GPS unit which I didn't really like for its software mostly.

There are several things that I do miss already after playing around with the 255WT:
1) Not being able to change 2D/3D/North up directly from the map screen.
2) Not having the option to change the routing information at the bottom of the screen (ie. select between ETA/time remaining/current street/current speed - something like that).

The Garmin is a superior unit otherwise, but it seems like these should have been included...

Copyright problems?

Could be that someone has that feature "Copyrighted" and Garmin does not want to pay to have that option available that way. Kind of like the road name along the top banner. Garmin took that off with a firmware update because of a "supposed" copyright infringement.

Its hell out there.

Sometimes I really get frustrated with this copyright problems. It has become monopoly now to get copyright on every thing. well come on these feature are for convenience and every one should be allowed to use. Showing these options on screen shouldn't be a problem. ya they can modify it in a way like instead of popping it up on the top of the screen, they can put it on down.
Believe me one day will come people will start taking copyright for their babies too...
Like my baby has brown eye, so no one else can have it!!!!!11 evil

.

It isn't copyright. You can change the detail fields on the Zumo and GPSMAP series' of navigators.

Garmin puts in the minimum that people will pay for - make 'em too complicated and load 'em with too many features and the cost of support goes WAY up.

Doubts about copyrights

The Emap, my first GPS, had next street up in about 2000. I think it is just an excuse.

Garmin has quite a selection

Garmin has quite a selection of GPSs at various price points. What features are included in a particular product is one way for Garmin to differentiate between different price points. It has nothing to do with copyrights.
