Best bang for your buck?

Well got suckered into the TOM TOM trade in. I traded in my Garmin for the TT 340xl and it kicked the bucket already. Granted they will replace it, but it left a bad taste in my mounth. So, what is the best bang for your buck now days. I am looking at spending about $200-225.

nuvi 855

I am sure there are as many opinions as there are users, but I think one of the best bargains this season (one that I took advantage of) is the nuvi 855 for $189 at Amazon. Note that it does not come with a traffic receiver, so you would have to add that if you want the traffic feature.

Venerable Nuvi 760

I can't say enough good things about this unit. It has a traffic receiver (traffic subscription is extra) and all the useful functions needed. The Nuvi 750 is also a good bet unless you really need the bluetooth option. The 760 can be had for around $200 at Amazon.

Are you sure you have the 855. I have a 850 without
the traffic feature.

Garmin 265WT if you don't need routing.

I upgraded to a Garmin 265T refurb. For me: traffic is now a must have, bluetooth is useless, wide screen next time just to get standard keyboard and refurb is the only way to go. Unit looks like new, good warranty and up-to-date map. I had routing on old unit and never used it. If you don't need routing, this a great unit.

Love my 760 but......

I love my 760. It does everything I need and does it well. I got the 760 instead of the 750 because I wanted the bluetooth. However, after using the bluetooth for a while I decided not to use it after all. The reason for my change of heart was this:

When I was using the phone outside of my vehicle and got close to the car when the GPS was on, it would steal my phone signal without warning. I'd be talking to someone and then I would suddenly have an apparently dead phone. The phone wasn't dead and the connection hadn't been dropped. The GPS had just snagged the signal and it was suddenly only available inside the car. It caused me some problems before I figured it out. After I realized what was happening I turned off the bluetooth in the GPS.

refurbs--

I'm a big fan of refurbished units on eBay -- at your price you can find 7xx and 8xx units. Pick the features you want, and look through seller histories to find the folks that make a good business of dealing in refurbs.

My last GPS was a refurbished Garmin 680 that I purchased from Comp UAS. Out of the box it was in perfect condition and has work flawlessly. All this ,for a great price.

765T

My wife and I just purchased the Garmin 765T and we really like it a lot!

Enjoy the traffic updates, lane assist is great, and if you don't need/want the Bluetooth feature you can purchase the 760 I believe.

Ditto

Picked up a new (i.e. not refurbished) 765T on Amazon 2 weeks ago for $199. Great unit--love it!

Nuvi 265wt

Around $150 or less.
4.3" screen, bluetooth, and lifetime traffic.

855

I have the 855 purchased recently for $200. It has the FM transmitter, routing (which I find particularly valuable), micro-SD slot (I use it for playing MP3s over the FM transmitter). I feel it is a feature rich device.

The Best Bang for the Buck

Is don't be foolish, let TomTom replace the unit and save your bucks. Plain and simple. May many Garmins are crapped out fresh out of the box with firmware problems so don't throw away good money after bad.
