"Walking case" for nuvi (350)?

Any such beast exist? I'm thinking about something that would keep hands-free while walking down city streets. Needing to have the antenna flipped up for the unit to function is a complication, of course.

I was thinking maybe a neck strap, or something for the arm--sort of like an iPod armstrap:

though wrist-based would probably be better.

Antenna up

There is a method of making the unit work with the antenna down, it entails placing a thin piece of metal in one corner to disable the sensor. I can't remember the exact specs but a little searching should allow you to find it. That way you could just put the unit in your shirt pocket.

Pockets...

All in all, I'd prefer to avoid a pocket solution. It doesn't address the times I don't have a usable pocket, or only pockets with other things in it (meaning I'd need to keep the GPSr in its case, to avoid having it screen scratched).

This:

looks interesting, though I don't know if the sizing is right.

A follow-up

Still haven't found a good option for keeping it handy while walking, but I did try something for biking:

I haven't actually attached the thing yet--I'm almost intimidated to; this thing is HUGE. It's this hulking piece of metal better suited to motorcycles than to bicycles. The other problem (in addition to its heft) is that there is no easy way to take it off the bike: it uses this U-bolt system with locking nuts. Not so suitable for periodic use. I don't doubt it'll hold the GPS solidly, but I can almost imagine my bike tilting over to the side it's mounted as I ride.

trekking wint nuvi

Nuvi series is not really for walking. Battery doesn't last too long and it isn't waterproof.
If you need gps for trekking (even in the city) it's better to have something like Oregon or Colorado series (https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145). Batteries in them last for about 10 hours and they are waterproof. And they use standard AA batteries. Of course there is additional cost for device and maps, as they often don't have very accurate streets maps.

Walking With a Nuvi 350

You could expoxy two eyelets to both upper sides of the Nuvi. Then attach a neck strap to them.

As for battery longevity, I've had no problems walking around with the Nuvi as long as the display goes blank after 15 sec of inactivity. That gives me multiple hours of use from a fully charged state.

I really don't plan on spending about five hundred dollars (with map upgrade) on something I'd use a couple of times a year. I have an eTrex Vista C for backwoods, and that's good enough for that purpose. But for the few times I'd walk around with it, the nuvi 350 is just fine, even if I have to put it away periodically.

nuvi 500 is waterproof

I haven't really looked closely at it but the nuvi 500 is supposed to be waterproof and have an 8 hour battery life (like the 350), fyi.

..[snip]

I only know that because I've been working on a feature 'matrix' and I've got a prelim version in Excel. All taken from info on the Garmin site.
