Garmin Nuvi 1490t keyboard not sensitive enough

Do you have a Nuvi 1490t and do you have problems typing on the keyboard. I have problems with several keys but the letter "A" seems the worst. I have tried touching the "A" key with every part of my index finger and most of the time it won't take.
Any ideas?

.

Have you calibrated the touch screen? It's worth a try before you RMA the unit.

Yes I did calibrate the

Yes I did calibrate the screen but I still have issues with the letter "A".

Is this the only way to calibrate the screen?

1. Make sure the unit is turned off.

2. Press and hold the top left corner of the touchscreen.

3. Power the unit on and leave the finger on the screen.

4. Continue to hold for 30-45 seconds and the press dot option will appear.

1490T touch screen

I've not had any problems typing on the screen. It does seem to be a bit "stiff" (requires a solid touch to get it to recognize the touch) but it does seem to work fine.

The problem I have had is trying to "drag and drop" on a map to scroll. At times it jumps all over the place, rather than smoothly scrolling.

Hal

Hal, I have the same problem

Hal,

I have the same problem when I try to scroll the map with my finger. The map jumps all over the place.

Now that

That is exactly the problem that I have with the 1490. Really easy to scroll using your figure but it never stops where your finger stops, it floats or jumps all over the country.

quality

I have seen that every new nuvi model since the 760 has gotten worst.

Both my Nuvi's do that

My 760 seems to do this a little more than the 350, but they both do this. Try using your fingernail instead of your fingertip. That works a lot better for me!

I have the same problem

I have the same problem while typing. Screen is not enough responsive even when you try to drag the map with your finger. It simply jumps all over the place....really annoying!!!

Another issue I have is with POI. I live in CT and the other day I've typed 'Grand Canyon' hoping navi will show me a route from CT to 'GC'. It did not recognized it!?!? Any thoughts?

I have the 1490T and also

I have the 1490T and also saw the issue with the map jumping after you have finished dragging. In the end I discovered that if you lift your finger off directly away from the screen the map does not jump i.e. if you use a drag motion and pull the finger off as part of the drag, that's when it jumps afterwards.

Try, Where To - Cities - Grand Canyon. Then Select Grand Canyon Az and press GO.

Also Where To - Points of Interest - Spell Name and enter Grand Canyon may well work but the first way is a lot faster as the Nuvi doesn't need to take many, many minutes looking through 6 million POIs to find ones named Grand Canyon. I gave up before it found any.

Floating screen

I have to agree with quantumleap. I too have found that removing your finger quickly solves the problem. Even better is to use a plastic Nintendo stylus (or any type touchscreen stylus) There is virtually no jump.

Fixed

That fixed mine, thanks.

1490 keyboard

I too have a problem with the 1490t keyboard sensitivity. It works, but I have to push the screen instead of touching the touch screen. I've sent an email to Garmin and will keep you updated when they respond.

It depends how the site

It depends how the site Grand Canyon was inputted into the database. I would use the search NEAR option and maybe type in the word GRAND and see what shows up.

You can use the near, type in

You can use the near, type in Grand Canyon, select attractions from points of interest, then landmarks. You can find several locations for the Grand Canyon including the watch tower, north rim etc.
