Model C330

My friend some distance away has a Garmin Tom Tom model C330. I am trying to help him load some POI files.
First I told him he should update his unit. He has never done a update since owning the unit for several years. I instructed him to go on Garmin's site and start the process which he did, but he stopped because he was afraid he would loose his personal favorites. Does anyone know if he updates his unit at the Garmin site will he loose all his favorites? I forgot to mention he did say it mentioned in the process of updating the unit, you may loose your favorites.

Thanks!

Quick answer

Maybe.

Before he does anything else, he should connect his unit to his computer, go into Mapsource and retrieve all of the favorites and back them up on his computer and on removeable media.

He should have done this long ago - what will he do if the thing is stolen or breaks?

And, while I'm sure it was just an error, there is no place in this post for the term 'Tom Tom'.

You mean Garmin c330 streetpilot not Garmin Tom Tom model C330.I have never lost any favorites by using webupdater but do remember the note you refer to.If he has Mapsource and wants to play it safe.

1.Hook gps up to computer using usb connection.
2.Bring up Mapsource and click on Transfer then receive from device.
3.All the favorites will now be showing.Leave the screen up and showing.
4.Run Webupdater and complete the updates.
5.Check unit after updating for favorites. If like my old c340 you don't have to unhooked from computer.
6.If favorites are missing just go back to Mapsource screen and select transfer then send to device.
7.Before closing out favorites save a copy as a gpx file in case you may need it later.
8.You can not access the drive for the c330 but you can open up the file in Mapsource and using transfer send copy to the gps for any future problems that may cause you to lose the favorites.

I have c340

I have a Garmin c340. Bought it about 4 years ago. Part of the reason i didnt buy the c330 was because it had a very small storage space. I think I read on here that it couldnt even hold all of the new map update on it. Also, it wont show up as a drive when hooked up via USB. Can only add rather crude csv files. So, be careful not to load too many POIs. It will alert you thusly. A very basic unit. BTW, I cant imagine going more than a couple years without a map update, but due to its age, and cost of a map it may not be worth.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.
