POI Loader Freezing

So I just downloaded the poi loader from the garmin website so I know I have the latest version of it. For some reason when I load my POI's it locks up when it is trying to load all of them. I have tried to load both directly to the unit (nuvi 205w)and also to the SD card inside of it (1gig free). All of my poi files are only 13.5mb so I know it cant be a space issue because I have well over that available on my unit and also on my sd card. What could be the problem? A bad file? Im running windows 7 64 bit so maybe that could be the issue? Any ideas? Your comments will be well appreciated. Thanks!

Windows 7 user

My current laptop OS is Vista, poi-loader works fine with it. I just received my new laptop with OS Windows 7 and am still loading programs. So far I've found one device that doesn't work. The mfg emailed me saying they are no longer supporting this device in Windows 7, guess I need an upgrade. I'm not planning on loading poi-loader on the Windows 7 laptop.

Have you tried loading only one file? The upload doesn't need to be more than one or two poi's. If the upload goes well you'll see the number of poi's successfully loaded in a pop-up window. You could try reversing lat, and long also.

I will try tonight at home

I have a new PC with Windows 7 on it. Haven't used it for my GPS yet but will try to see what happens.

The loading process can sometimes be quite slow. Are you sure you are giving it enough time?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

I Agree

I agree with bentbiker. I have just under 80MB of POIs and it takes POI loader as much as 5-8 minutes to load them all. Of course, you may also have a bad copy of POI Loader, in which case you may want to download it again or find another version.

I never load more than one POI at a time. It goes faster and I don't have to keep reloading ALL POI's every time I want to update a particular POI.

Update

Ok, so I have an update. Its working now but VERY slowly. One of the problems I had was I forgot to put the sox.exe file in my garmin directory after moving to my new computer so it was trying to convert my audio files. Finally after about 20 min of just letting it sit I got the error for that. So I put that in and it successfully loads the files. It still takes about 10-15 min to only do 13mb of files. Is that normal? Overall I'm happy it works but it would be nice if it went faster smile. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Another Update

So I just tried the POI loader again and it is going MUCH faster. Did it in about 1 min. I guess maybe it was just being a pain in the wee hours of the morning? Thanks for all your help guys!
