As newer units have better features and the prices are very low with Christmas sales I suggest not repairing but buying new. You also get the latest maps.

i have a 755t and wife has a tt one, the 350 is just catching dust, i just can't throw it out. i'd be willing to pay 70 -80 for repairs.

Expect nothing!, appreciate benignity!

I bough a nuvi 200

I bough a broken nuvi 200 is an old unit and when i got it the rear connector was broken, but i manage to fix it on my own, and it turn out to be a really nice unit ever since i update it to newer 2010.30 maps.

Why not consider buying new?

Cheaper in long run to buy new. Probability is with old equiptment, fix one thing, and soon after, something else fails.

Repair vs. New

Having worked on literally hundreds of Nuvi's, I've found some of the newer models break more often then the older ones. I'll give you a prime example: The mini-USB jacks on the rear of the Nuvi 2xx/2xxW break off from the board, preventing the internal battery from being charged. Most owners think that the battery has gone bad, which isn't the case. On the Nuvi 2xx/2xxW, there isn't a quick-disconnect cradle, so you have to keep plugging in and unplugging the power to take the unit out of the vehicle. Eventually, the USB port breaks. The Nuvi 3xx, 6xx & 7xx have a USB port AND a cradle port. The cradle port is specifically designed for long life and the electrical connections are of a type that are not stressed. It's cheaper for a manufacturer to install just a USB port rather than have to provide a cradle port and USB port, so you get what you pay for. I prefer the older units for this reason, PLUS the parts are cheaper & easier to find & stock. Also, take a look at the manufacturer repair rates on a new unit vs. an older unit.

Jim,

Last night I was viewing my Nuvi 350 at 200 ft zoom level looking for red light cameras along my future trip, all was good for half an hour then the screen went black.

I am trying to view your website but it is loading really slowly. I read your dead gps webpage and have tried what your suggested.

I plugged gps into the computer (1/2 hour), it didn't lite up and computer didn't see it.

I plugged it in by garmin charger (all night), this morning it still did not work,

Then plugged it into car charger using cradle port (1/2 hour), still did not work.

I have not tried resetting unit yet but will try tonight.

Your website isn't accepting gps units, when can I send you my unit.

Phil
