Update my maps?

Almost every time I turn on my gps now, I'm getting a message that my maps are old. Is it really worth updating, or should I just keep what I have. I could just about replace mine (c330) for the price of new maps. What do you think?

check the new maps

Garmin has an interactive version of the current maps online, so you can see if the new maps differ in an area you care about:

Whether to upgrade or not is personal preference, but I'd probably get a nuvi before buying maps for a c330. But the old maps on the 330 may suit you just fine. FWIW, I had my 750 side by side with a friend's c330 on a long trip once, and there was nearly zero difference between the two. The routing was the same, the nuvi typically warned of turns a second or two quicker.

That is a decision you hav

That is a decision you have to make but you have a excellent point.C330 will not hold the new update without a sd card to hold some parts of it.Plus sd card will not hold custom pois. That is why I got rid of my c340.With some of the Black Friday sales you see some good deals.I believe the 255 with free traffic going for 129 at Best Buy.Sure it will be limited numbers avaiable.May do better going on line for Best Buy to grab one.

don't do it

By my thinking that GPS is too old to update now. You might be able to get a one-time update, but at a price close to what you could buy a new nuvi for on Black Friday (or more than a new TomTom will cost on Friday). And it would be a really bad choice to buy a lifetime subscription for it (if it was even available), considering the GPS is near the end of its lifetime and the subscription is not transferable.

If the current maps that you have are not bothering you then stick with them. If you are finding that there is too much new constructon in your area consider a new GPS (but realize that Garmin maps are often two years or more old on the day that they are released). Or wait and see what happens with Google and the android platform. I certainly would not waste money on the "droid" and the customer cheating Verizon company, but I suspect that we will see some interesting android based GPSs in the next year that can be updated with new maps for free any time that you are near an Internet connection.

I would say if you update

I would say if you update map, it would better just to buy a new device.

Good Advice

Hopefully you will get additional features for lower cost than an existing unit with an old map.

FWIW

FWIW if it were me I would take advantage of the holiday sales and purchase a new unit. I am quite happy with my 760 with lifetime maps and traffic - even though it is obsolete, it has all of the features. It was the last model series produced that is able to display the upcoming street names while driving around, prior to losing their lawsuit.
