I like the option of current road construction, unfortunately it's updated via a PC. I wonder how many trucker are going to rush out and buy this unit with its $500 price tag.

If it works, probably quite

If it works, probably quite a few will spring for it. Driving a tractor trailer down a road a GPS thinks is fine for a car can be a disaster. As well the inaccuracies of distances when it comes to billable miles. Fix those two things, and you'd have some very interested truckers.

I agree

$500 is cheap insurance to a truck driver...I think a fine for being on the wrong street can be that in some cities. Being on a Street that is too narrow..or not enough clearance for a bridge..and that would be cheap.
what it really needs is good places that have Pie..

Garmin 465T vers Rand McNally 510

Last Oct I got the Garmin 465T for 450.00 + 25.00 shiping from Garmin. As a OTR Driver I need a good GPS for my job. I have been with Garmin sence the Street Pilot they have a good rep an a good CS. saying that the 465T is a pice of junk. It takes me. off route on to roads I should not be on. it will not let me go on roads I should on. It will takes me 15-20 miles out of the way per run. I have worked with CS on the matter over an over. I even got the new mapes nothing has worked. Two weeks ago I got the new Rand McNally TND 510 for 350.00 at a Loves Truck Stop. I compared them side by side for the last two weeks. AND THE WINNER IS Rand McNally TND 510 it is doing every thing the Garmin 465T is not doing and a lot more. I will find out this week if I can do my POI's I hope I can

Truckers GPS

I am no longer (retired) OTR, yet I needed a GPS that worked for me and my RV. Especially up East where I am Hazmat and Height for bridges. No fun having a 13' rig trying to go under a 9' bridge in Dover NH as my old GPS did. Think of the fun trying to back up a double.
Bought a Cobra 7700 PRO and it has worked great only problems I have had is out in CA it kept trying to get off a road near I10 that had a weight restriction before but since has been repaired. That and the 7700 won't allow you to add POI's. Big drawback is the POI feature, Plus a little clumsy to use while driving. Need to pull over to safely make route adjustments.

X2

We purchased the 465T by Garmin and thought it would be just the ticket for travels in the RV. Unfortunately, first trip out it took us on a CRAZY dirt/gravel road way out of our way. Returned it for a full refund. Now we're looking for a replacement - our concern is mostly roads suited for RV's with ample height clearance, lane assist and a 7 inch screen. Any recommendations???

Thanks!

GPS for RV

Have you looked at the Rand McNally TripMaker RVND 5510 GPS. It lets you put in a profile of your RV such as the size of your RV to avoid tunnels that are to low.

465T vs. 560LMT

I had a 465T and really didn't care for it. I, too, have been using Garmin equipment for many years, starting with a GPS-2+, going to a GPS-V, and an eTrex. All were great units, and I still use the GPS-V for APRS (Google it).

I ended up giving the 465T to our youngest son, in the automobile mode, and I tried the 560LMT. The 560LMT is GREAT, and doesn't seem to do the odd routing teh 465T did. The only caveat I have with it, is that it will show a ? on many roads that trucks are authorized on, because it doesn't have data for those roads.

My 465T does the same thing with the ? on many roads when in the Trucker/RV mode. The only thing I can say positive about the 465T is there is a differance
in routing between the Auto Mode and Trucker Mode. It has not sent me to a 12ft covered bridge yet like my past Garmin did. The only thing its consistant with is the location of Weigh Stations on the hwy. Only once it showed me a steep downgrade warning on the interstate and that was for an exit off I-81.

I know a few people with the 560LMT that seemed to be satified. I've not seen the Rand McNally GPS yet.

UPDATE To My post

After using the Cobra 7700 ($500)for a year plus I have come to the conclusion it is not worth the money. If you want updates Cobra charges $80.
I found the Garmin Nuvi LMT at $150 that I purchased for the four wheeler is running circles around the Cobra. It does more and gets me there a lot easier than all the steps Cobra puts you through.
Plus the updates are free!

I was in my previous life always a fan of Cobra and swore by them. But no more, now I swear at them. They have lost me as a customer.
