SD card problems

I have a Nuvi 750. Have always put my POIs on my SD card and then was "New Extras data found on card. Would you like to install this so that it will be available if the card is removed?"

I always say yes because I do like them on both the SD card and my Nuvi.

I made new POIs two days ago and put them on the SD card. Nuvi ask the question and I said YES.
The POIs are where they are supposed to be on my Nuvi, but my problem is every time I start my Nuvi I get "New Extras data found on card. Would you like to install this so that it will be available if the card is removed?" I have answered YES and NO but I still get the same question everytime I power up.
Does anyone know what's going on.
Thanks

POI Loader

Are you using the POI loader or just copying them onto the SD card?

POI loader

I always use POI loader. I have done this a lot but this is the first time I have used it since the new update. Wonder if that caused a problem?

After

After you say YES don't you get a screen that lists the POI file being installed? On that screen is a check box that reads "don't ask me again" If you tap the box to put a check mark in it you won't get the new data message at bootup again. It's kind of weird you say YES on one screen and then NO on the next one.

I get the screen and it list Custom POIs (garmin/poi/poi/gpi)
I push install.
When it installs I should never get the New data found again until I add new data. I have answered install several times and I have answered skip also.
This is a problem. I have never had it ask me to install the new data again after I said yes and installed the new data. It's like it is in a loop.
I don't want to say don't ask me again because I am afraid it won't ask if I add new data to my SD card.
Does this make sence?
Once the new data has been installed there is no new data on the SD card and it should recognise that. This has never happened before.

I can understand that if I always said skip to install new data the Install new data would come up again until I said don't ask me again, but after I install the new data it has never before asked me to keep installing the same data.

Say don't ask me again

Mgarlage,

I've been down that road with my 750. If you say don't ask me again it's ok. If you DO change the data on your SD card you will be prompted again and have to go through the whole install dialogue again.

I don't know the mechanics of how they track that file but it works. If memory serves me correctly it also (sometimes but not always) gets a little confused if you interchange SD cards.

In my opinion it's a pretty poor and confusing interface implementation.

I checked the "don't ask again" and then punched install. Turned off then back on and it still asked.
Then I checked the "don't ask again" and then punched skip. Turned off then back on and nothing!!!
YEA!!!
This is something that it has never done before so I hope nothing else is messed up as we are going on a short trip in a couple of weeks and I can't make it with out her.

Thank you so much.

Not to worry

No need to worry about checking "don't ask me again". If you create another poi file and put it on your SD card, the first time you boot the Nuvi it will ask you again about loading that new data. The secret is that the data within the POI file is different than what has already installed. If the data remains the same then it will not ask you again. If the data changes it will ask you again.

extra poi

my nuvi 255w also does this. i don't find this a problem because i am updating my poi files. it keeps the most current . personaly i don't copy them rather let the gps read from the card. i have backups on my computer

No new data

This was the problem. The data was always the same. I never reloaded the POI after the first time. Everytime I booted up the nuvi it was reading the POI file as new data but I never again reloaded any.

The Nuvi was always reading the data as new and it was not changed. That was the problem.

Update

I made two more POIs to go in my list and resent the information to my Nuvi and it asked me if I wanted to save it so I said yes. I then rebooted and it never asked me again.

I think there must have been something wrong with the 1st file when I sent it to my Nuvi with POI loader.

All seems well for now, thanks for your help.
