Replacing Battery in Nuvi

Has anyone opened the case of their Nuvi series? I am wondering about battery replacement. It seems this could be done if instructions were available. This series has been out long enough now that soon a battery is going to go dead.

Not sure about this one

Here is a link for an external battery pack, kind of expensive but you can also use it for other devices.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003F5WEMO/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=...

This page does not list the mah capacity of that device, so you can't judge if it's a good deal or not. I have had good results and very good customer service from Anker external batteries. Search Amazon for 'Anker' and you'll get a good mix of sizes and prices. What's really nice about these is the standard USB output jacks, so they charge/power anything. I have a 10,000 mah model and it will recharge/power both an iPhone and Android phone at the same time. My wife and I use one of these when we are on extended hikes. Takes about an hour to charge our phones back up again.

I replaced one on a 780 and a friend just is in the process with his 1490. With the right tools and patience it is not a difficult task. You can get the battery cheap with the tools and it extends the Nuvi's life if you need to use it disconnected from a power source.

monoprice external battery packs

Monoprice.com has a variety of external battery packs ranging from 1500 mAh to 9000 mAh, priced from $8 to $35. I kind of like this one, but I haven't bought it yet: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=...

Good golly, I wonder what that puppy weighs. At least they don't mention an optional cart.

According to the user manual it weighs 10.5 oz; about the same as an Ipad mini and a couple of oz less than a Nexus 7 or my Samsung Galaxy note 8.0

I've had good experience with a company called New Trent as far as external batteries go. I've used their stuff for a couple of years now. They make a quality product at a great price. http://www.newtrent.com/

Have a Nuvi 265. Replacing

Have a Nuvi 265. Replacing battery seems easy for that unit. Remove two screws from below. Then carefully remove the 3 inside but be careful when opening the case as the cable is attached to the board. I still haven't receive new battery yet but i think it should work just fine.

I think that is very good

I think that is very good advise.

I have replaced the battery

I have replaced the battery in the Nuvi 660.
It was a bit dicy, but I got through it OK....

Here is a video showing it happen, start to finish:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2KEu_if7wA

They sell battery replacement kits with tools for specific garmins on ebay.

Fellow in the video shows it happening a bit easier than what I encountered....

be careful while it is apart.... Keep parts close together as shown in video, as, the little fine ribbon cables can and will pull out, and they though they will go back in, it can become a painful experience.

Nice going on that battery replacement...the first nuvi units (3xx/6xx series) were a bear to do battery replacements on because of the flip-up antenna design. I got rid of my 350 before the battery quit so I didn't get to experience the task. neutral

Replaced my nuvi 265 battery

Replaced my nuvi 265 battery and worked just fine. Pretty simple replacement. Bought battery from Amazon and removed 5 screws. Just be careful when opening the case.
