US-24 between Defiance, OH and the 101 in IN to open 29th OCT.

Now this is a new section of a larger rerouting of the old US 24 road.

I am wondering how I will handle driving for almost 30 miles with the Nuvi totally confused repeating over and over "recalculating" do to the fact I will be driving thru what it thinks is empty farm fields.

I also will not have my eta avaiable until I get back to the old US24 in Indiana. confused crying mad rolleyes

There are several new roads in the area where my in-laws spend the winter and that's what I do - don't set a route until I get back on established roads.

Unfortunatley there is not much to be seen at 5am other than the occasional deer bounding over my hood or the tail lights of the semi trucks.

Turn the sound down so you don't hear the recalculate. I would think the eta will continue to be displayed. Don't know how accurate it will be however.

That will be SWEET!!!

I'd heard that 24 was opening in October. No more Antwerp 3 blocks and 3 mis-timed lights??? So Sorry!!!

That'll make my nightly run from Detroit to Kokomo to Windsor a lot nicer! 2012 is what I've heard for the rest of 24, Waterville to Napoleon. Haven't heard about 101 to I-469.

Wow

If this is your biggest challenge, and difficulty for the next year, you are truly blessed!

Who do you do that run for?
What times are you out there?
Do you have a radio?

Chrysler Transport. Start in Detroit @ 15:30, ETA Kokomo 20:30, ETA Windsor 01:30.
Our radios have been getting stolen so I don't run one anymore. I absolutely hate putting one in and taking in out every night.

Recalculating

I had the same problem when they recently reconfigured US 35 in West Virginia. Lola (my GPS's nickname) started the recalculating bit. It lasted for approximately 5 miles and then Lola froze up. Wouldn't do anything. I had to turn it off and then re-start it. I now just hit Stop and when I get back on the old road, I just just go back and re-enter my destination. Of course, it is kind of fun watching the green fields and the rivers as you go through and over then with no roads anywhere around.

Will do. I know Northwind very well. Kilowatt quite well also. The others...I wonder if they're from the Toledo Terminal? Or Windsor? If so I don't know them.

I thought they were out of

I thought they were out of Detroit. We generally do the run around 4-6 am.

Opening Ceremony

There will be an opening ceremony for new U.S. 24 at the Indiana/Ohio state line on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 10 am. There is an invitation with details and directions in the documents area below.

Very Nice Hwy

Very nice, smooth. Time-saving. Shaved nearly 20 minutes off my travel time to Kokomo. GPS didn't know what to make of it of course. No surprise there.

20 min?

I guess it did that by having you not stop at the Vagabond!

.5 miles shorter.

I did not like the increase in eastbound truck traffic which held me up from 469 to the 101 with them driving under the speed limit and then stopping and makeing the two turns at the 101.

Double checked

The time saved. Closer to 10 minutes. Still a lot less aggravation.

Navteq

Well this has finally shown up in the Navteq maps update/report database.

Now lets see how long it takes Garmin to get it into their maps.

P.S. I am no longer driving this route, got a job closer to home! rolleyes

US 24 Indiana; Garmin still goes insane FIVE YEARS LATER!!

I drove this section of US 24 around sunset on Friday for the first time, by myself, hundreds of miles away from home. On Friday, I blindly followed Garmin's directions. It flipped back and forth, back and forth on it's directions, took me down a service drive where I could not get onto the highway and landed me a front yard. Literally! After looking at this forum, I can see that this was an issue at least five years ago and has yet to be addressed by Garmin.

Unbelievable and incredibly dangerous. I wonder how many motorists end up in these people's front yard on a regular basis.

Welcome

...

Welcome to the site.

Before getting too deeply into a problem posted by someone new to the site (in your case a "routing" problem), we usually recommend the following.

There is a "Learn" button in the upper right of this page next to "red light cameras" that takes you to a Getting Started page. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Learn" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Tutorials.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup). It also assures that you put your (newer) unit into a state where you can see all of the folders there.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394

Now, tell us a little more about the route that caused you to wind up in someone's front yard. I'll first assume that you were in automotive mode (as opposed to pedestrian or bicycle) and that the navigation setting was NOT "offroad".

Look at Tools > Settings > Navigation > Avoidances and tell us what is currently checked, please.

Approximately where was your starting point and ending point?

Likely we can solve this.

Again, Welcome
