Up Loading (POI Loader erases my old poi files)

I have a Map60Cx and a street pilot 320. Whenever I add a new poi file it erases my old poi files. Does this on both GPSrs Is their any way around this?

Thanks

That's how

That's how it works. When you add new POI's it creates a file called poi.gpi. Everytime you download new POIs a new poi.gpi is created, overwriting the old one.

There is a way around this and a lot of information is in various threads on this site. Also there is great information at http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/index.html , particularly the POI sections.

New POI loading

All the previous POI's are deleted when new ones are loaded. Therefore, simply load up ALL of the POI's everytime. I have a dir on the computer called 'My POIs' and I put all the custom POI's in there. When I load the POI's, I just load up that dir and everything goes in.

Poi Loader 2.51

I'm currently using poi loader 2.51. If the gps unit is not attached to your PC, Poi Loader will ask you where you would like to save your poi. Options are:
Garmin device, Mapsource and custom folder. When you choose custom folder, it will ask you for a folder to save the poi file to. You can then create the poi.gpi on you PC and copy to your gps at a later time.

My solution

After a fair bit of study here I have set up a folder set on my 780 to allow me to upload sets of POI's.

For instance on my SD card I have created four folders...

POI's
XtraPOI's
RedLight
Manual

I put most of my POI's files in the first two folders...the ones I rarely modify. I put only redlight and speed POI's in the Redlight folder which allows me to modify this collection frequently without touching the others. My manual folder contains only those POI files that I want to set manual speed or distance values for.

This way I do not have to load the whole collection every time....only the collection where I have made changes.

You may also want to look at the re-naming method.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16639
