Communicator and my Mac (Safari and Firefox)

Good evening: I've checked many of the posts about communicator not working with Safari and I have done all the suggested fixes (flip4mac plugin stuff) and It still is not working. Anyone find another workaround?

I have also tried it in Firefox and it says it's loaded but an update is available. So I download it and it's the same version as was already installed. Version 2.8.2.
And Firefox will not let me go any further because it thinks it's outdated.

I just purchased the lifetime map update and I can't retrieve it so any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

Update: I just check "installed plug-ins" and it says I have "Garmin Communicator Plug-in Version 2.2.0.1" installed even though I've downloaded the 2.8.2 version from the Garmin site. I'm so confused.

Re: Communicator And My Mac (Safari And Firefox)

Hi trackerguy (Jeff),

My only suggestion is to download the Communicator plugin again and make sure you “close all browsers“ before you attempt to install it. Please let us know if you’re successful...

HTH (hope that helps)

Try creating another user--

Try creating another user account, and going through the same steps using that new account -- this will tell you if it's getting hung up on some bizarre stored/saved/outdated preference file -- I've had a few of those, particularly in moving to 10.6.

Oh, in Spotlight, you can click on the "+" sign at the far right of the Spotlight display (to the right of the Save button), and then go to the pull-downs (which say "Kind' is "any") and change that to "System files" and "are included" to let you find (and snuff out) rancid preferences!

Well I gave up on my home

Well I gave up on my home computer.

I have successfully completed the download at work while running 10.6.1. I just don't know what's up with my home computer. Even though the download says it's the 2.8.2 version of communicator it installs an older version, go figure.

Perhaps I'll try some of these suggestions with a new user and see what happens.

But for now I at least got the new maps I paid for.

mac safari 4 garmin communicator

Safari 4 has the capability to disallow Pop up Window, Ad Banners, and Images and Plug-Ins. If you choose to block animations, under Safari icon > Block Images and Plug-Ins > Only Animation, the Garmin Communicator will be undetectable. Uncheck Only Animation and the effect is immediate; you should be able to use Communicator. Do your business and if you feel you still need to block animations recheck it.

I don't see where you find these additional blockings. Under the Safari pull down I only see block pop ups, in prefs I see the same. Where are the additional settings?

Use Firefox

I ran into the same problem with Safari.

The system would say the plugin was installed but it never worked.

I restored to using Firefox. Like was said before, quit all of your browsers. (Emphasis on Quit -- Not just closed, make sure Firefox and Safari don't have the blue active dot under them in the dock)

I've also found that having your Garmin already plugged in when you go to load the Garmin page yields a better result.

Hope this helps.
