Yep. That's all anyone knows. Sometime this quarter. Probably October or November.

January?

FWIW ... gpspassion site has reported that the next NA map update won't be until January.

Saw that

Yes, the folks at GPSpassion were talking to Garmin this past week and the next map release will not be out until late December or into January.

The upside is that it looks like this will allow Garmin to release a newer Navteq map version than they did previously. Currently the City Navigator North America maps are a full 2 quarters behind Navteq's latest map version. For example, 2010.20 which Garmin released very late 2nd quarter or early 3rd quarter 2009 are actually Navteq 1st quarter 2009 maps. It is hoped that with the delay in 2010.30 it will contain Navteq 2009 3rd quarter when it would have normally been Navteq 2009 2nd quarter.

I guess it would be safe to say ....

The next map update will be released when Garmin releases it and not a second before that moment.

That's how I figure it ... and Garmin has never disappointed me.

From my experience - If you call again and get someone else, they will tell you something entirely different. All one can know for sure is that when it is released, we will have it!

This has been my experience

This has been my experience as well.

What updates are applied

Does Garmin or Navtech have a site where they post what changes were made to the maps? This would help in deciding if I need to update to the latest map or not? Also help to know if they 'corrections' I submitted made it in the release or not.

Left hand doesn't know what the right's doing...

Exactly. Garmin's support has been in recent years very abysmal, at best.

If you hunt around for it on the Garmin site, they have an interactive version of the current map so you can check for changes in a given area. You may have to zoom way in to get the detail you need. Try this link (not sure if it may have a session id):

Maybe this week? If not, I'm thinking 2010.

I reported a major change to NAVTEQ back in the summer of 2008. They confirmed it in December 2008 and Garmin finally picked it up in the 2010.20 update.

Now I have another major update from November 2008 that they recently confirmed so it will be interesting to see how long it takes Garmin to pick that change up. If they wait until 2010 to release 2010.30 they might get it.

I know the joke and it's a good one. Too bad you can't tell it here. smile

A Google search, if you're curious, will get you to the joke however.

Difference?

I know it's kind of OFF Topic.

What are the differences between 2010.10 and 2010.20?

I am using .20 maps on my all garmin units, there was a flaw. It told me to make a left. Matter of fact, it was One Way Road cannot enter as GPS says.

Hope some of those flaws fix in 2010.30 smile

Only if

They will only be fixed if someone reported the error or Navteq's road surveys picked it up. So the best advice if you come across an error in the maps is to report it directly to Navteq at:

Good Idea on that Link for all Navteq Maps Navigation Units. Hope most people report when they encounter issues.

I will probably make a new thread since it's off topic.

Thanks.

The next map release should be Late November early December 2009.

Not before its time

Garmin shall release no map before its time.

how updated are they?:

Hi All, I'm new to the site/forum... I have a nuvi 266W, and in my development, some new houses went up about 6 years ago on 2 new roads. Yet every time I can see the latest map offered, they aren't on it. ??

Can someone tell me if the latest map has the 2 roads? They look like a backwards P, and named Tony Drive and Meghan Blvd, in Schenectady, NY. 12306.

Craftydad

Yes

Craftydad - those roads appear on my 2010.20 map.

Yup

Craftydad wrote:

I see them on 2010.10 right off of Countrywalk Rd

"It's not where you start, but where you end up." Where am I and what am I doing in this hand basket?

Yes

If you go to Navteq.com and enter either street in the search field you will see that they are both there. This means that the "latest" Navteq maps have the streets in the database but it is no guarantee that they will be in 2010.30 as Garmin has been about 2 Navteq releases behind.

The good news is that if those streets are not in 2010.30 they will probably make it to the next version.

Thanks for the report. Next quarter's update won't do that. And that is going to be out really soon (I noticed you have a Lifetime Map Update subscription).

I'd come back and check on Monday. Supposedly the next quarter will go up tomorrow (2010.30) so you might even try tomorrow night or Saturday.

I know the way things go around here...it'll be put up at the last possible moment tomorrow so I'd wait to try until Friday night, minimum.

Thank you again for your interest in Garmin!

2010.10 and 201020 Differences

kmo wrote:

A major difference is that 2010.20 now includes Mexico.

As for a difference, enter the address "3600 Thomas St, Mississauga, ON, Canada" into 2010.10 and 2010.20. Under 2010.10 Thomas Street does not connect between Winston Churchill and 10th Line. In 2010.20 it does. It is interesting to note that Google Maps has not picked that up.

Please do a search of the forum as this has been discussed here many times, for example http://www.poi-factory.com/node/12434?page=25.

The short answer, Garmin DID NOT promise 4 updates a year. What they said was UP TO 4 Updates per year.
