Garmin 1690 With OnStar Functionality

I have been reading about the Garmin Nuvi 1690 GPS
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=64339 and it looks pretty slick. I am just wondering if there has ever been any discussion of OnStar functionality http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/index.jsp in a device like this. I have never used OnStar, but my father in law had this. I was wort of thinking that at a minimum, since this is a connected device, to have a one button instant 911 dialer on it. That way if you are driving and have an emergency, you can just push one button rather than having to find you cell phone, dial, etc. Just a random thought. I guess it is not without inherent risks, of course. Some people would push the button for fun, just to see if it works. On the other hand, I guess that same risk may exist with OnStar.

IF you are in an accident, there is a good chance your garmin is not going to be there. The windshield will probably be broken out and if not, chances are the mount will be knocked off. Onstar is not going anywhere.

Of course, cell phones bounce around the car or fall out during bad accidents unless they are kept in your pocket. Of more importance, be sure that the ICE section of your contact list is filled out. EMCs and first responders are trained to look for this informaion in cell phones at accident scenes. They never look at GPS units.

excellent point about the ICE info

I only became aware of that a year or so ago, and I entered the info into my phone the same day
