Testing done.

Both the Web Updater and POI loader look very nice and work fast.

The Beta of POI loader doesn't let you manually set proximity alarm distances yet though...

I tried the Updater

Much as I fear Betas, I downloaded the updater and let it rip on my 1-week old Nuvi 360.

Made the jump from V3.40 to V3.60. Quick download to the Nuvi then sometime to update after you, as instructed, disconnect the Nuvi from the Mac and let it restart.

From the System selection, used about and saw I had gone upwards. Showed Bluetooth as V0.0 but I had disabled Bluetooth. I enabled Bluetooth and re-checked. Bluetooth came back in the previous version number.

Tried one "where to" but haven't tried it in anger on the road. Hope I haven't screwed things up.

Cheers

downloaded both

downloaded both here...looking for some POIs to update on my 2730 so i'll give it a go in a bit. excited about this, though...means i won't have to boot up in windows to update my garmin!

old Mac

Oh joy, to not have to keep a Windows Laptop on my desk to be used for one purpose only, my c550.

The only problem I have, I still use an old G3 running 10.2. I have been planning on upgrading to a new Mac, but have not gotten around to it (hard to justify when the G3 still does a great job, gotta love a Mac).

The question for those of you that have tried this, is everyone running 10.4 as stated is required, or has anyone gotten it to run on something older?

Thanks
Deborah

I'm using 10.4.9 and don't

I'm using 10.4.9 and don't know anyone that has 10.2 anymore, they all jumped to 10.3 and now 10.4 because 10.2 and older was such a buggy mess.
I do know someone still using OS 9. 8)

I really don't think the software would work in 10.2, but it may work just fine in 10.3... ??? Your G3 laptop should work just fine with 10.3 if you have a good amount of ram in it.

My guess is that next month Leopard will come out and it will be a great reason to get a new Macbook. smile

Just Tried the new software

Hi I just tried the new POI loader for the Mac and the new Webupdater. They seem to work great with no problems. However I still need to use Simon Slavin's "unmount software "to unmount the MAC. Has anyone had the same experience?

Can you explain more about your need for unmount software???

Webupdater used for what exactly?

Is it for firmware updates? If so, I want to stay away from it since I want to modify my c530 for TTS and I know only firmware version 5.40 is last known to work.

yeah, kind of

bdodds

I believe it's specifically related to the fruits of the "Malus Domestica" or more specifically "Malus X Domestica 'Macspur'"

Darn, that's about 1100

Darn, that's about 1100 miles from me. A little far for me to ride to. Now we're way OT. wink

They have a web site

And they'll ship UPS... smile

They do have lots of interesting varieties - one is a 'Jonamac' - cross between Johnathon & McIntosh - I'm fond of the 'Cortland'.

Yeah, we're way off topic. wink

Sorry it took so long to get back to you

Bdodds,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you,
My problem is that when I try to unmount the Garmin C550 by dragging it to the trash it will not leave the desktop. have to use the Simon Slavin's unmount software to unmount the Garmin C550

Macs, Garmins and POI's

Hey there. I just joined. This is a great forum.
This is a simple way I figured out to take my nuvi off of my mac. I take my two icons (Garmin and no name) and put them into the trash. Once they are in the trash I disconnect the nuvi. (Timing is everything in life). It simple but it works.

2) I have used the two garmin beta mac tools and they work solidly. I updated my software and was able to get your very cool POI's in. I saved myself two speeding tickets last week as well.

3) I spoke to the software people at Garmin and they expect to have map updates on the Mac fairly soon.

Now my question: Is there a way to get my audible working on my Garmin when all I have is a Mac. I have given up hope.

Here's a 'round about way that should work

Use iTunes...and burn a CD of any audio book title you may have, then, take that CD and rip it to mp3 to load into your GPS.

I find that very odd, I have no issue ejecting my Nuvi from the Mac desktop...

audible

I activated my audible account on my Nuvi using a friends PC. I'm not 100% on this but I believe after that I was able to load books from my audible account to my Mac / itunes then to an SD card. I only did a free trial with audible and that was last year but i'm sure it's doable.

nüvi 660 & 670 - Hello I'm a Mac :))

I guess I will try it too.

It is about time the mac support came along. Nothing is simpler than with a mac. Just watch the commercials on apple.com, they are FUNNY!!!
