Mac OS X

For the few of you like me using the other computer, Garmin earlier this year added Beta Software, WebUpdater and POI Loader for Mac. I have been using both for more than a month now and they works like a charm.

nüvi 660 & 670 - Hello I'm a Mac :))

Still having problems

with POI Loader for Mac.
I use Intel based Mac running 10.4.9 OS.
I have no problems with WebUpdater for Mac.
Do you mind telling me what OS version you are using
on MAC >
I have been working with TechSupport at Garmin but no feedback for 3 weeks - don't want to bug them since I "can" use friends PC to make changes to my C330

"don't want to bug them" ...

"don't want to bug them" ... ???

dude -- they're there to answer your questions. if they aren't, you definitely need to start "bugging them"!

i've only had to contact them once, via email. they got back to me the next day.

They have responded

to my e-mails several times obtaining various
info about my system etc ! I figure I will let them
fix the problem - writing new software is not an
overnight function especially to make it work with
about 9 different software versions !
But thanks anyway DUDE !

Running OS 10.4.9

MrKenfl
I am running OS 10.4.9 on my Mac G5 Dual Processor and haven’t had a bit of trouble with POI loader. Use it every week and it works fine. What is the problem you are having?

I am not using an Intel based Mac but I am running 10.4.9. I have been very happy with Garmins tech support. My suggestion would be to call them "(800) 800-1020" rather than e-mail as I have found that the on hold time is relatively short and they seem very happy to help. Before calling I would first try reinstalling the POI Loader for Mac Beta 2.0.0.1 April 27, 2007

Your Garmin and Intel based Mac should work. I hope this helps, Please let me know. Good luck, Monte

nüvi 660 & 670 - Hello I'm a Mac :))

Thanks

for the suggestions ! I have tried the latest 2.0.0.1 version several times. Redownloaded it twice and get the same error message "error communicating etc. etc.". POI
Loader sees my C330 in the "send to" window but then says it can't communicate. My Mac communicates fine with the Mac WebUpdater. It may be I have a C330.
I have hesitated phoning as I am a laryngectomee (sp) and have a hard time being understood sometimes !
Also POI Loader does not offer me any "proximity" alarm settings.
C330 set up OK for now - will hang tight a bit longer as I am all updated via a PC.
Thanks again !

I just received my Garmin

I just received my Garmin c530 last night. I'm anxious to do the TTS modification sometime this week. I'm a Mac user so I'm guessing I must do this modification using a PC (I have an Intel Mac and would like to try it under Windows using my Mac). Anyone have an experience as to whether this will work or am I better off using a PC and not a Mac running Windows.

Try it olemed

Try using the MAC POI Loader and WebUpdater first. Many users of later version Street Pilots have had success with the beta software for MAC
Mac running windows should also work !

Thanks MrKen

I will give it a shot. I am finding lots of fun POI's - neat stuff.

Another quickie question while I've got it on my mind - my unit came with software version 4.10 installed (is this the firmware version, because I could not find it listed any other way). I wanted to update the firmware to version 5.4, which I believe is the last known firmware version to work with the TTS mod, from what I read.

Not familiar

with the C530 - others more knowledgeable will help you shortly, I'm sure ! The group here is fantastic in assisting ! Enjoy your toy - I have enjoyed my C330 for over 1 year now ! Very happy with it for my usage - long trips ! Did one last summer - 11,500 miles - 35 states ! I can only remember 4-5 errors the entire trip ! And I didn't have any POI's on the unit then !

I can certainly understand the difficulty using the phone with your Laryngectomy. My Business partner has a severe speech disability due to a stroke so his wife or I make most phone calls for him. Having said that I realize beta software usually means no support but I find that Garmin wants the feedback as they are working hard to get the Mac market. The GPS is just a toy and most of all I hope that your healthy.

nüvi 660 & 670 - Hello I'm a Mac :))

New software version

for C330 . V5.50
Just downloaded to "Lila" - my C330

changes:
1.Improved Garmin USB support on Mac

2.Fixed problem with custom POI Loading

Maybe I wasn't having "operator" problems
after all.
Will test on Mac later when I get home.
Garmin WAS paying attention to my problems
in Loading POI's with beta software ! I'm sure many others wrote in also BUT thanks Garmin !

New software version for C330

Version 5.5 of C330 software has solved my problems with beta
Mac v2.0.01 of POI Loader giving me "error communicating etc, etc, etc" problems.
I still cannot manually load proximity alarms for distance..

Has anyone been successful in manually loading proximity distance
alarms with Mac POI Loader ????????
Would appreciate responses if you have had luck setting manually !

Will reload my POI's with a PC so I can set my proximity alarms manually!

Leaving for 3500 mile 2 week trip on Tuesday from Flor-i-duh to
inland VA to NH/ME so want to make sure my proximity alerts are
working !

Happy Mother's Day to ALL Mothers !

I don't think the option to manually load proximity distance alarms is part of the current beta version. Maybe in the next version?
