Has anyone tried to modify a regular car power cord to receive the FM traffic signal? Seems like it should be fairly simple with only two pins on the usb plug to work with. Just a thought for a weekend project!

You don't understand.... It's anything but simple. As a minimum there is an FM radio receiver contained in the power adapter and the 2 data pins you speak of make up a serial interface where messages are exchanged between the receiver and the GPS.

Didn't think of it that way.
I figured it was just amplified antenna in the cord. Didn't think of the receiver part of it, thought that was built into GPS. Makes sense though for the price of a new Receiver cable!
Thanks for the info! Now my weekend is free!
