265wt Lower volume when paried with N95

Hello. I am new here. Thouth this websit say it is related to POI, I found a lot of useful issues beyond that. That's why I want to raise my question here.

I ordered one Refurb 265wt on Amazon.com. Using it for 2 day. I have noticed the volume of the unit always drops to non-audible range immediately after it paired with my Nokia N95. The only solution is to click the sound icon and then "OK". Note that I don't need to change the volume level, that is, the unit still shows a "80%" even though it drops.

The problem keeps recurring. I understand there is some compatibility with some bluetooth cell phone to get full functions but this is a malfunction that I have to deal with each time I turn it on. Actually I also can't see the "phone book" option after paired. But the latter issue is tolerable. Could you give me some suggestion if there is a hope to solve this problem now? Thanks.

Software?

Have you updated to software version 5.3? That may be of help.

Same problem

I have the same problem when pairing a Motorola v750, but it seems to happen intermittently. I have no solution, just wanted to add my experience to the problem.

I also had one instance where the 265wt rebooted several times that I think was related to the bluetooth pairing, but I can't be sure on this one.

P.S. I've updated to v5.3.

Yes, both sides are up-to-date

Yes, I use the garmin webupdate to install all updates available (it is v5.30 since I began to use it). I also use Nokis PC suite to update my N95. I also tried various method like initiating the connection from cell phone or GPS side.

Maybe will live with it

pity on you too. So far I haven't noticed any scenarios like the rebooting you described. I have once paried my N95 with a 765t with no problem.

Well, a little relief is that I verified after hours of continuous trials that the drop only happened when pairing begins and will not repeat as long as you keep pairing on.

That's been my experience

That's been my experience as well: once paired and volume reset -> no problems. I think the rebooting thing and volume issue is related to v5.3 firmware. I didn't notice either until I updated the firmware. The firmware did something with the bluetooth and phone calls though, so I guess that's a good candidate for the problem.

Maybe I'll roll back to v5.1 and see if it goes away. If you care to try here's the link:

http://www.garmin.com/software/nuvi2x5W_regionfileonly__510....

Drag and drop the file onto the webupdater shortcut and it should use this file as the "update".

No luck...

Thanks, alokasi. I did exactly what you said. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The volume still drops once paired. Even worse, the scanning if initiated by the GPS can't find either my N95 or my nearby laptop. Now I update it back to 5.30.

Now I just wonder if this may be a consistent problem as long as I use N95 or just maybe my 265wt is defective. If it is the former, I will give up trial and live with it since I still like the device. If it is the latter, then I can return and ask for exchange.

Update: I tried my friend's cell phone, samsang SPH-M300. The volume didn't drop! Though "phone book" still doesn't show up either. Maybe it is just a compatiblity issue.

I'm inclined to live with it.

I don't really like the sound quality the BT connection produces (or the 265wt speaker), so I generally just use my BT headset. I use the GPS when the kids and I call their mother at work so that it can act like a speaker phone. That, and I've been told the microphone on the nuvi picks up EVERYTHING for the person on the other end to listen to, so it can be quite noisy for the person receiving the call.

But, it is nice to have as a backup for my BT headset.
