format SD

I have another question, my SD card came formated as FAT, I want to format as either FAT32 or NTFS, will the Garmin 765T read NTFS? or should I format as FAT32?

Format

I have a 4GB SD card that is formatted FAT32 and my Nuvi 265WT likes it.

SD Formatting

The 16 GB SDHC card used in my Nuvi 350 is formatted FAT32. I've never tried NTFS.

Fred

if fat 32 works

I will do that, don't want to do NTFS and find it doesn't work. thanks for the info

I would not expect NTFS to work in a GPS. Are you quite sure that your memory card is really formatted in the original FAT format and not already in FAT32? I would not expect the original FAT format to be able to support devices as large as current SD memory cards. It is very likely already FAT16 or FAT32. Original FAT (also know as 12 bit FAT) could only support up to 32 meg partitions. FAT16 can support 2 gig partitions and can support 4 gig partitions if they use a 64k cluster size, which is considered not well supported. Anything larger must already be FAT32. Sometimes people use the term FAT to mean any of the three forms of FAT, FAT12 FAT16 or FAT32.

So my questions are Why do you think that your card is not already FAT32, and why do you want to change it from the formatting that it came with?

Yes,

it was FAT, I had to reformat it to FAT32, I found out when it refused to accept any more files, so I checked it
