Nuvi 760 won't acquire satellites after battery change

I changed the battery of my Nuvi 760. Process went very smooth, charged up the "new battery" and turned on the unit. It booted up "normally", but will not see satellites. Went into the satellite screen, and no activities at all; no bars, no blinking satellites. Any suggestions?

Is it possible your location

Is it possible your location was reset, after the change, and the unit think's its in a part of the world where those satellites are not to be found? Let it sit and re-aquire and see if it locks in.

You don't say how

You don't say how you attempted to get a satellite lock. You should be outside with a clear view of the sky in all directions. It can take a fair bit of time to acquire a lock, sometimes 20 minutes or more.

Takes Awhile

Keep in mind with the total power loss suffered during the battery swap your GPS also lost stored data on satellite locations.

As with the very first time you ever turned your 760 on you should give it awhile (30 minutes is often suggested so all available sat location data can be downloaded and stored) and obviously an unobstructed view of the sky are needed.

Cheers

Nuvi 760....

Yes, I was sitting on my deck with an unobstructed view of the sky, and I fiddled with it for a total of 45 min. Retrospectively, I remember but did not mention that several days ago, I updated to 2010.20 and have not verified that it's working before I swapped the battery. I should have done that first, I guess. I have tried resetting to original factory default (turn on the unit while holding the right lower corner of the screen). Still no go.

Let it sit

Assuming you did not zap something inside with static (or something like that), power on the unit, and let it sit. Just ignore it, don't fiddle, and come back in an hour or so and see. The first time I powered on my Garmin out fo the box, I remember panicing because it too so long to get a signal lock.

Is it possible you disconnected maybe an antenna wire inside when changing the battery?

Nuvi 760

Doubt that I zapped anything. I did not do any un-necessary touching of any other parts. Ditto with disconnecting an antenna. Only wires seen after I opened the back were the battery wires & speaker wires. I've left the unit running plugged to the car and left outside the garage. Will see what happens in an hour or two. Thanks for the suggestions.

If that don't help try this below,How to Hard Reset (Clean Boot)

1) Be absolutely positive the antenna didn't get disconnected during battery replacment!

2) perform a hard reset on your unit, the procedure works on Garmin Nuvi models 200, 250, 360 750, 760.

Soft reset, slide the power switch and hold for 8 or more seconds until the unit resets. This works usually when a unit hangs for one reason or another.

Hard reset back to factory settings and erase all user data, press and hold the lower right corner of the screen and then power the unit on, a dialog will come up asking if you want to "Erase all user data", select yes. This option only erases data in the unit's memory that isn't accessible to the user (ie. what isn't accessible when you connect the unit to your computer). It doesn't erase any .gpi or .gpx files you loaded (if your .gpx files contain any waypoints then they will automatically be imported into your Favorites), it won't erase any mp3's, jpg's or any other files that you have loaded.

Changing your battery should have no effect on satellite reception. I changed my 760's battery recently and it booted right up and acquired the sats just as fast as usual. If you have tried the other suggestions of master reset and leaving it sit out for an hour to reacquire the sats, I suspect that you disconnected your antenna while changing the battery. After doing my own, I can see how easy that might be. Those little ribbon cables do not have to be completely pulled out before they lose connection. I would advise reopening the unit and making sure that all the connections are firmly seated.
