What towns have LANE ASSIST and/or Junction View

Hello to all with newer NUVI's with Lane Assist.

I live just south of Louisville and don't seem to have Lane Assist in Louisville. I also checked for Lane Assist in Albuquerque (none there) and in Los Angeles (have it there.
I am assuming it will be added to more cities as the Map Updates keep coming out.

So....
Louisville Ky - NO
Albuquerque NM - No
Los Angeles Ca - Yes

If those who have the Lane Assist option in their Nuvi's would add city names and whether Lane Assist is/not avaiable there, It might be of some use to those who are going to travel to those towns to be able to know in advance if Lane Assist is available.

Could have benefitted from Lane Assist and JV last week when I was vacationing there, my wife and I took the wrong artery 4 - 5 times during our trip. Thankfully our 660 routed us back on course each and every time grin.

That 'reality view' (as Gerry describes it), the simulated signs that pop up? That's 'Junction View'.

On my 885T it shows a "Lane Assist" tab on the next turn page and when I touch the tab it shows the next turn as a photo realistic depiction of the next junction with highway signage.

Page 15 of the owners manual shows this exact situation with pictures depicting what I wrote above.

Thanks for posting the link to the owners manual rjrsw. Now I finally understand just what the "difference" between the two, "Lane Assist" and "Junction View". Lane Assist is the feature and Junction View is part of that feature. They aren't two different features.

Well, to confuse you again

Well, to confuse you again (lol) they ARE two different features. Some units only have Lane Assist (the arrows) others have that AND Junction View. No units have Junction View with no Lane Assist.

If you look at the features of the newer models on the Garmin site, you will see ones that have Lane Assist, and the pictures show only that feature.(Arrows) Then look at the newer models that have Lane Assist AND Junction view. You will see pictures of what Junction View is on those models only, not the ones with only Lane Assist.

I don't disagree at all that the earlier models were ambiguous about this, but Garmin made it clearer now.

Lane Assist/Junction View verification test

Use this test to verify that Lane Assist/Junction View are working on your unit:

Note that this is a known & verified junction in SoCal that displays both Lane Assist and Junction View and has been verified with all map versions up to 2010.20 using a nuvi 765T with firmware v3.60

1. Create the two following favorites:

SP (start point): N34 04.052 W117 58.954
EP (end point): N34 03.606 W118 00.085

How to create them: Where To?>Coordinates>(enter the coordinate values above)Next>Save>(enter name "SP" or "EP")>Done
Repeat for the end point favorite. You should now have two new favorites named SP and EP

2. Simulate the route and verify Lane Assist/Junction View is working correctly:

*Note that Lane Assist refers to the multiple next turn arrows at the upper left of the map screen. Junction View is the photo-realistic representation of the actual junction you'll be navigating through

Route Simulation:
a. Turn GPS simulation on (Tools>Settings>System>)
b. Find the start point favorite, select it
c. Hit the Map button, hit the Set Loc. button
d. Hit the Back button twice
e. Select the end point favorite, hit Go and simulate driving the route

Note that there are two Lane Assist/Junction Views in this route simulation which will verify that Lane Assist/Junction View is working correctly on your unit.

If the above simulation verifies that Lane Assist/Junction View works on your unit but you have never seen them while in your area, it's because they are simply not available in that particular area where you were looking for them, or perhaps expecting them to be.

lane assist is now updated

I have owned a garmin nuvi 765t for about 7 months now and I noticed that when I loaded the 2011 maps onto my GPS, lane assist was added to new places where it had not been present before. Since the map update, lane assist (the arrows, not junction view) and the 3D building view are now available in Baton Rouge, LA and although New Orleans had it all along, lane assist was added in even more places there (it already had the 3D buildings). It's nice to know that garmin and navteq (garmin's map provider) are expanding and updating this feature. Have any of you noticed lane assist in more places since the last map update or is this just an isolated event?

lane assist is now updated

I have owned a 765t for 7 months now and since I've loaded the 2011.1 map update onto the GPS, I've noticed that lane assist is in places that it was not present before the update. Baton Rouge, LA now has lane assist(the arrows, not junction view) and the 3D buildings, and although New Orleans had it before, lane assist is now showing up in even more places in the N.O. metropolitan area (N.O. always had the 3D buildings). I think it's cool that Garmin and Navteq are actually expanding and updating the feature. And if this is happening all over the place, maybe the area where you thought lane assist should've been now has it. I wanted to know if this expanding of lane assist is just an isolated event or if lane assist is being updated everywhere.

Another way to check

Dorkusnimrod gave a good way to check "Lane Assist with Junction View". Here is another one.

Pick a destination far, far away from your current location. Then let your GPS unit calculate the route and begin giving you directions.

Step 1: press the green bar at the top of the screen and your 765t will go into "Turn by Turn" mode with three entries per screen.

Step 2: press one of the rows to get a split screen with a map on the left and the direction info on the right. Notice that "Lane Assist" is at the middle bottom of the screen. Usually at this point it is "dimmed" because no "Lane Assist" is yet available.

Step 3: press the down arrow at the bottom right of the screen until "Lane Assist" is displayed as being available.

Step 4: press "Lane assist" to see the lane assist with junction view picture.

Step 5: press "Back" to retuen to the directions and go back to Step 3:

Lane Assist

I see that lane assist is noted as being active in Nashville. I have been through there many times and have never seen it activate at any interstate intersection to date. On the other hand, a friend's TomTom activates often.

Lane assist

I can assure anyone who questions the value of lane assist that my wife has found it very useful as she continues to get used to Houston, where we recently relocated. When she talks about her 1690, that is top on the list.

Lane Assist

Yes in Orlando, FL

Lane Assist vs. Junction View

I think a few folks here are getting confused about the 2 features. LA is the green arrow on the top-left of the screen (depending on your model), and JV is the full graphic that screen pops showing the freeway-style signs on the route.

There's a huge difference between the two.

LA v JV

Agreed. And my wife loves both features on the 1690 while learning her way around Houston.

I was just there for a trip and lane assist (the lane arrows in the upper left hand corner) activated in Nashville, Knoxville, and even Chattanooga. That being said, this is with the 2011.1 map update. I'm not sure if lane assist was available before without the 2011 update in these areas.

My nuvi has had lane assist from day one, even with the old 2010.20 maps it came with. I believe most do, and are advertised by Garmin as such.

True, lane assist has been available

True, lane assist has been available since the first nuvi 7x5 series gps was released, but at first it was not available in many places. But now, Garmin and Navteq are expanding this feature with each map update. Just since I've gotten my 765t in november, I've noticed lane assist has been added in areas I frequently travel to that didn't have it when I first got the gps.
