POI Editors tested with WIndows 7

Does anyone know if the Extra POI Editor will work with Windows 7?

I just downloaded the trial version and keep getting the following error:

Component 'RICHTX32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I tried running the editor in XP SP2 compatibility mode in Windows 7 and that does not work either.

Any help?

I haven't tried it under Windows 7 but that missing file is common if you don't have the necessary files installed. Go back to TurboCCC's webpage where you downloaded the file. There is a section called Troubleshooting. It addresses this missing .ocx problem. Just download the file called "Extra_POI_Editor_Installer+v250.zip" which will install the missing library files plus the POI editor. Worked for me. You only have to do this once. After that, you can download the latest POI Editor file.

As mentioned you will need

As mentioned you will need the 250 setup, that has the osx files, etc.

I am running windows 7 and had no issues with running it after running the setup in the 250 download that ws already mentioned.

Try to Register the File

Search for RICHTX32.ocx to ensure that the file is on your computer.

To register (or re-register) a DLL or OCX file

Go to the Run item on the Start menu, and type:

regsvr32 <path & filename of dll or ocx>

Installer v2.50

Yes, it should do it.

I think it is about time I upgrade the installer to something a bit more up-to-date than 2.50... LOL! smile

Here's how I installed EPE on Windows 7:

1. Create EPE folder - e.g. C:\Tools\GPS\Extra_POI_Editor
2. Download Extra_POI_Editor_Installer v250.zip
3. Extract Extra_POI_Editor.CAB from the .zip file
4. Open the .cab file and extract richtx32.ocx to EPE folder
5. Download Extra_POI_Editor V391.zip
6. Extract the zip file contents to EPE folder
- Open an elevated command prompt -
7. Press Start key
8. type cmd in the search box
9. Fight click on the cmd.exe icon
10. Select run as administrator
11. Reply Yes to the UAC prompt (if enabled)
12. Type these commands in the cmd.exe window:
  C:
  cd \EPE folder name
  regsvr32 richtx32.ocx
  exit

13. Extra_POI_Editor is now good to go

Thanks for all the homework!

I will be trying "playing" tonight!

GeePeeEx Editor is

GeePeeEx Editor is specifically designed to produce and edit GPX files destined for Garmin's Automotive Satnav (GPSr) systems.

So does EPE.

You should try it. LEt me know if something is missing.

Windows 7 problem

The only problem I'm having with my 360 and Win 7 is that every time I hook it up to my rig, Win 7 wants to format my 360 to fix an "error". Actually, it wants to do that for any of my flash drives or devices with memory.

To elaborate just a bit

Once you use the installer to push the required ocx file onto your machine, you can use the remove process to delete the down-level version of EPE retaining the files that were installed in the Windows directories. Later versions of EPE aren't installed, they just run once they are unzipped.

I'm running it on one machine in Vista, no compatibility mode needed. I expect it will run at least as well on 7.

Still have problems

1. Create EPE folder - e.g. C:\Tools\GPS\Extra_POI_Editor
2. Download Extra_POI_Editor_Installer v250.zip
3. Extract Extra_POI_Editor.CAB from the .zip file
4. Open the .cab file and extract richtx32.ocx to EPE folder
5. Download Extra_POI_Editor V391.zip
6. Extract the zip file contents to EPE folder

12. Type these commands in the cmd.exe window:
C:
cd \EPE folder name
regsvr32 richtx32.ocx
exit
13. Extra_POI_Editor is now good to go

Any other suggestions?

I still get the error message while attempting to setup Extra POI editor on a new computer. Let me say that I have I had no issues at all with prior installations.

I have tried your suggestion as well as the two versions on the installation file that TurboCC has posted.

Bob

I had to...

include this file "'RICHTX32.OCX" in the directory where the application was installed for it to work with WIN7.

EPE Installer

I reinstalled the EPE on my computer running Windows 7 Professional 64bit a few days ago and remember having an issue with the latest installer (V4.48). After that I used V4.02 and everything was fine.

Instaler v4.48

I ran into a problem with the installer v4.48 when I created it.

Running an older installer version should effectively work fine. I just got a new computer at the office with Win7. I will try to investigate and correct the installer.

Thank for the info.

Turbo

Ver. 4.47

I installed ver. 4.47 with no problems. Installed perfectly.

YES!

cool
I am running win 7 and have EPE 4.48 installed and running with no problems... If you continue to have problems you will need to reinstall your library files
to overcome this error. The file is 5.66MB in size and can be found on the net or I can get it to you if needed?? I had a similar problem with another program under win 7 and fixed it after I installed the library file and have not had any errors since.

Hope this helps?

GEE PEE EX Editor works great

I use the unlimited version of GeePeeEx Editor and it works great with Windows 7 64-bit.

Works on Win7 here too.

Confirmed. It works on my Win7 machine too once the OCX is installed.

This is the price I pay for not forcing you to use the installer everytime like GeePeeEx, but once the library is installed by using the installer once, you will never have a problem after that.

turboccc,

So are you saying that because I have the OCX library files installed from GeePeeEx Editor that if I install your program I will not need the installer?

Yes and no

There are many OCX files. Depending on the feature I use, you may need a different one. For example, to have a richtext box, richtx32.ocx is required. Not all programs are using richtext box.

EPE needs MSCOMCTL.OCX, richtx32.ocx and hhctrl.ocx.
